hey, my old front shockers are compleatly dead and everytime i go over a lil bump the suspension bottoms out and make a loud bang  , so i thought i better get some new ones soon.

I was just wondering what you people think are good for money shockers.
I also dont want any thing thats cheap that will only last a lil while but i also dont want to spend a heap as im on a tight bugdet.

Ive heard that Monroe GT GAS shockers are good, so i just wonna hear what u all think

Thanx

yeh for a budget, GT gAS are prolly one of the best to go. other than that, alot of places will quote u for KYB as well, theyre just as good, maybe cost a little more, but not much at all

good luck

Fronts nearly double what the back costs. I'd say you'd be looking at ~$750 for the entire thing supplied and installed.

The back would be just under $250 and the front would cost you around $500. All fitted.

These prices were just based on a quote I got recently for a 3rd gen. Somebody may be able to tell you of a more accurate price.

have you looked into installing them yourself? they look like around an hour each, thats taking out the old one and whacking the new one in. check the gregories

if you are getting GT GAS, the fronts cost $140 -> $150 each (RETAIL price) so you're looking at $280 - $300 just to buy the parts for the front. However, if you have someone in the industry and get trade price, fronts can go as low as $100 each, so around $200 for the front.

I have GT Gas all round, I suggest you do the rears as well, as they should be up for renewal anyway, don't cheap out, you'll end up with a half balanced car, putting you into even more trouble.

KYB is better, according to some tests KYB conducted, go to www.KYB.com. Some people say KYB is the poor man's KONI.

Anyway, good luck. Where abouts are you? I'm sure someone from the forums can help you out if you give them some insentive?

Yer the rears will come next as soon as ive got the dosh. its just at the moment the fronts are way worse then the rears are.

unless i install them my self i might be able to buy all 4  :) well have to see

Im in SA hmmm *hint hint* :P. that reminds me to, my back struts have had it too, how easy are they to install and how much rufy are they for the rear

The rears usually sale for about $120 (Retail for a pair of them) ($90 trade)

The fronts are harder, as you will need time to compress the springs with good spring compressors. The fronts are HEavier, so to some, it is slightly harder to put back in, the rearsare very easy, the spring isn't in much compression, hence it doesn't really require much compression to take it out, and once you get the spring back into the strut assembly, you can install the rears by yourself really, So can the fronts, but takes practise, if you want to attempt this yourself, make you you have someone who knows what they are doing to help, else you could get hurt.

Good luck.

The price of the KYB and the Monroe GTs are relatively similar for the fronts, at least where I asked for prices (I'm in WA by the way).

I'm totally enjoying the good dampening they give. The rear KYBs are about $100 more expensive than the Monroe GTs.

Don't know what the Monroe GTs are like so I can't really give any comparison.

I agree with Whitedevil that it doesn't take much to compress the spring to get it out. I suppose if you aren't changing springs, you won't have to go through the drama of uncompressing them! (the uncompressing just goes on and on and on and on and on lol)

ok, i can get either the Monroe GTs or the KYB's all round 4 the same price. i just wonna know which would be the best to get, im leaning towards the Monroe GT's as there a more known brand but some of u's have said the KYBs are better. But i though ill ask u's as some of u's are talking from experance as you might have the KYB's

also how much will this affect my body roll, cos my cars shocking 4 it?

thanx

good springs and good shocks will glue your car to the road, body roll should be minimal, but most vibrations gets through to your bum.

has anyone out there tried ACDelco? ive got a set waiting to be put in once i get my new springs and from what ive found they are very good. most of the brands everyone quotes are european but these are american and top of the line from what i can gather. anyone had any experience with them?

Changing front struts complete with springs is really simple (I did mine with a swap from a VR4 front cut in an hour both sides). When you have to put the springs on to the shocks with a manual spring compressor, it probably adds about an hour to compress the spring and decompress it afterwards per side, and it's pretty solid labour.

Hey

Big thanx to DEANO on the forums for gettin me a great deal for 4 Monroe GT gas's

me and my uncle installed them about 2 weeks ago. they have made a massive improvment, the car doesnt feel like its lagging any more when i go around sharp bends. and it hasnt bottomed out yet!

the only problem is the bodyroll it only made a slight difference but that should be fixed soon when i lower it

another thing i my uncle told me was that mitsu put stiffer springs on the front drivers side, which this was anoying cos it took us over 1/2 more time it did to compress the other springs.

just a few more questions how will i go with theses shockers and lowered springs cos on the monroe website it says that you can get normal, raised, and lowered shockers and i presume i got the normal

and how much is a stardard 4 wheel alignment cos not long ago i got a quote from where i got me new tires put on and he said that only the front can be aligned on the magnas and that would only be $30 but from wot ive heard thats not right so i dont think ill get it done from him

Thanx

Glad to hear the new shocks did the job. As for lowering the car those shocks will be fine as long as you don't go too low. ie below legal height.
