Hi all,
I noticed this the other day and would like a bit of advice. If I'm going along at about 40 kph or so and then plant it, the gearbox drops down to first and I'm away. But when it goes to change gear at the top of the revs, there is a little chirp. It sounds like a squeegee going down glass almost. The chirp only lasts for .5-1 second.
I've never heard this before. Could it be a cause for concern?
Thanks

Could be the accessory belt squealing when the revs suddenly climb.
Was the AC on at the time. If so, it could be the ac belt. Mine does that once in a blue moon.
Mine does that on throttle lift off or gear changes (auto) but only if the air con is on - it caught me out the first time too. Is your's the same?
edit: Ouch - I had this page open about an hour before typing in a response!

Yeah come to think of it the A/C is usually on when it does it from memory.
Thanks for clearing it up.
my AC belt squeals a tad if i accelerate and rev over 4000, tension is fine too
edit: only squeals when AC is actually on hehe
Wheelspin?
Not a chance in a stock auto.

:) haha. No worries, thanks all.

Possible if modded, HRD2GT was able to chirp 2nd in his 5sp auto... Amazed us all lol.

Off the initial subject a bit, but yes, the tyres do chirp even on my 3L Auto. In fact, they were spinning on spot and front slid sideways. And what amazed me was that they were OEM tyres, hence considered the best possible option! And they also seem to last for years on - in the shed.

Come on guys I was joking, we can all chirp gears if we want to. I'm sure the OP would know if his wheels were spinning and what it would sound like.

Lol, you even quoted what he said. STOCK auto. I can get mine to lose traction sometimes if I stamp it going into 2nd, but its not even enough to make a chirp.

Yeah, I'd say it would just be the A/C belt or somthing. Although it didn't do it today, even with the A/C on

True story, Just recently my mrs in my 3.5l 4spd auto was just coming onto a passing lane, doing 80km/h and went to pass, she planted it right to the floor( ive told her she doesnt need to do that!), it shot to 2nd and the passenger front tyre just started spinning and smoking, im not kidding, she freaked out and jumped off the gas and it grabbed again. it was on a dry road although the tarseal had covered the chip so was quite smooth. that was just before i went to 225/55/16 from the 215/6016 standard. tyre was well worn but about 3mm still left, but i had had problems with accelerating on on that tyre before, spun so easily (i had different tyres each side) . car not quite standard (strait through exhaust, no cat converter) but i was amazed it happened. although i would say it was a freak incident, never repeat it if i tried (which i wouldnt!)
