I had to do some work to a Mates VG Commodore ute...
The previous owner had installed some 6.5 inch "Alpine Speakers" in the Doors..
( he complained that the speaker had cut out: turned out they had lost their wiring)

Here is where things get interesting.....

I pulled the Supposedly Alpine Covers off and to my suprise they were not Alpine Type S 2-ways at all... but Soundstream 2-way's instead..

They look about 3-4 Years old and the Alpine Covers bolt right over the Tweeter so you couldnt tell they were Sound Stream without looking..
They dont look like Entry levels... as the Capacitor on the tweeter is fairly substantial..

So would you consider this a Rip off or a Bonus ???

I doubt he bought the car for the speakers anyway, so I'd just be thankful they are still a decent brand of speaker and not some no-name brand cheap speakers.

i used to work for cash convertors, and we used to get the derros try and pull this trick all the time. They'd come in with the europox speakers from their commo with $69 pioneer speaker's grills over the top and try to sell them off as pioneer lol

Maybe the previous owner didnt like the Spider grills on the Sound streams?

All I know is they were the Type S Grills not the Type R's and the Sound stream speakers use Screws instead of the normal blade type connectors..
