Hi All,

I noticed that our Outlander has a groove cut into the center console box so that you can feed cables for charging phones through and the lid will close properly. As my power socket is in the center console, I plan to do the same using a file/dremel tool. Question is: Does anyone know if there is anything that I should look out for? Are any any cables in there?

Cheers,
Vlad

Just take the box out of the console - It will lift straight out.

I know. The internal box is easy to make the groove. I'm more worried about the outer console which is more than 12mm wide and may hide cables inside.

99% sure there are no cables near the lid of the console, you will be right.

that far back, the only 'wires' are the hand brake cables on the floor??

Thanks for the replies guys. Will attempt this on the weekend and hopefully won't damage/crack any plastic.

I did a similar thing to run the cable through for my mp3 player, just removed the inner box, drilled a hole with a hole saw (10 cent piece size) put in a rubber grommet and pierced the grommet to run the cable through. Theres no cable etc that get in the way and keeps the player out of veiw.

i did a similar thing recently in the lancer for my gps' power cable. i took the centre console out, and drilled a small hole in the console bin going through to the underside of where the handbrake/gear selector goes. Then threaded the cord right up through the dash and comes out at the steering wheel. I did a similar thing in the verada for my phone charger, had a second cigi lighter under the extra one in the rada, and a hole in the cup holders up front, ran the cord through underneath. That way the cord is always there, and always powered, but hidden under the cup holder lid when not needed :) If you ever need to remove it, just pull out the cup holder and pull the cord back through. Takes 30 seconds. It leaves you with a small hole in the cup holder, depending on where you put it though it cant be seen :D
