oky, have a 95 Diamante (ex Jap import) and it has a ABS fault code 63 - ECM failure. all the really helpful manuals say to take out the ABS ECM and replace it, but WTF is the damn thing??!! does anyone know where to find it, none of the manuals or online help i have been to are any good, they are all for American or Australian vehicles, not Jap ones, and it is NOT in behind the centre consol, it is NOT in the rear left luggage compartment panel, and it is NOT in the firewall either, have stripped the car out (as these are all the locations specified for these models in the manuals) it is no use me searching for a Japanese car component location diagram, as unfortunately i dont speak Japanese, lol. HELP!

mmm, may have got to the bottom of this, thanks to some workshop manuals that people on here had posted links to...it appears that the ABS-ECU is built into the ABS pump in the engine bay, im off back over to my shed tomorrow to have a look and see if i can find it at last and will report back! also have found in my internet searches, that the chips in the ABS-ECU have a habit of failing, so that may be useful information if anyone else needs it :)

no dammit, the computer is NOT part of the pump either, now have pulled nearly the whole car apart trying to find it! im thinking will have to just ring Boyces on Monday and pay for them to send me the information, as this is ridiculous. so, if anyone has any other ideas where this damn ABS-ECM might be, in a jap import 95 Diamante, please can you tell me! :0

Maate,
the Max Ellery Magna/Verada (Diamante) 1991-2005 workshop manual (EP.M093) reckons for TR/TS models quote "the ABS ECU is located in the left hand side rear quarter panel in the rear compartment (sedans & wagons). For TE/TF/TH/TJ?/TL?/TW? the location is quoted as "located under the left hand side of the instrument panel to the side of the glove box.

Note: I put a ? alongside TJ, TL & TW as I've checked on a TJ2, TL & TW and it wasn't there.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

For post-TJ (includes TJ), I can confirm that there is no separated ECU for ABS. The ECU is together with the unit that is located at passenger side in the engine bay next to the firewall.

Wrong, well sort of

The TH onwards have the ECU as part of the Modulator, the TE and TF have the ABS ECU right high on the LHS A pillar.

Being a 95 Diamante is most likely same as mine, being what we call a third gen body (TE style) and as far as I know it would be in the same place up on the A pillar. Have not to be honest had a look for mine as have had no need to

that's jap market I've posted and not knowing the exact model but an example from the part numbers and there's a few some showing TCL as part of. Doubt the aussie market matches these but for what it's worth.

in not sure what ABS ECU the diamante runs but in my TE, its a Bosch unit. looks just like the unit in your first diagram, not the photo above. its a black box.

This is the unit fitted to the Wagon exported to japan from here. TF series I'd say looking at dates mid 97

Looks like TCL as well
