I've Got A TR Magna and have had an issue with the paint on the front plastic grey bumper since purchase, its painted white across the top just below the grill, but when I got the car it had a couple bits missing, 2 days onto my Ps I went and washed my car and a hea more came off, I'll put up a picture so you can all see what I mean.
Would a simple can of white spary paint do a good enough job??
When I got it:

Sand it back prime it sand it back and give a couple of coats of white paint the spray can will be "ok" but not the best, Then clear coat it

Its not the bumper, the paint is flaking of the car

so its all ok to do that on plastic then??? that'd be for ultimate result I guess, save maybe for using proper paint, I just wanna take the attention away from it...

To paint a plastic bumper you need special primer for plastic surfaces, otherwise the paint just flakes off as whats happening to your car now.

yeah, its flaking where previous owner used a paint brush and probably a tin of house paint... ****heads..

When you put paint on raw plastic you need to lay down a plastic primer or that happens. its called delamination. Take an air blower to it and it might all peel off, then you can lay down some new stuff. Dont forget the plastic primer though.

AAAGGHHH!!!! Found new cracks in the paint on it..., i'm thinking of going all out and making all the grey plastic white... but then I don't really wanna waste a heap of money on a 4cyl, that I wanna get rid of...
EDIT:
Maybe I could Make It Into a 4cyl show car :P

If you're keen to keep the car just get a new bumper from a wreckers, you might be able to get a cheap one and they're not hard to change over especially when you've got the workshop manual which can be easily found on here.
If you're gonna paint, might as well go white the whole way round.

if it does not suit you or you cant find a replacement from the wreckers, and you go ahead and paint it your self remove all of the excess paint, scuff with a supperfine sponge or 400 sanding disc folowed by a microfine sponge or 600 grit paper ,plastic prime 2-3 good coats, you do not have to sand the plastic primer back smooth just paint straight over the top again 2 good coats then if not happy with finish light rub back with 600 grit and apply another coat, wait till completly dry and hand cut and polish or hit it with a buff till happy, their is no need for a clear coat as your car never had it from the factory. that is the way i do it and im a painter by trade.
good luck with it all;)

:stoopid: I painted my whole front bumper with cans. I was a cheapass back then so I'm like nah nah cans will be fine (pro-tip, in the end it'll work out the same price to get it done by the pros after all those cans of primer, color, clean, etc) But the bumper came out unreal, all one color, and had SOME gloss to it, people didn't believe me when I said I painted it with spray cans....so if you do a good job you can do quite a bit of deceiving...good luck

clay bar should remove the bulk of the overspray and a light cut polish will remove the rest
