Im looking at replacing my exhaust due to rust, but i figured that rather than just replacing it, i might as well spend an extra $150-200 and upgrade it also.
Which size piping is going to get me the most bang for my buck on a 3L V6 if i go for a hi flo cat back system, as i heard that getting to wide diameter piping will not have enough back pressure?
Cheers

standard is 2 1/4, having a new one made straight through 2 1/4 has a nice sound and no power loss,
2 1/2 much better sound, power loss barely noticeable, any larger and no good, just no good!!!

2 1/2 is very good for a 3.0l, Nice sound and no powerloss

Nah should go well with the cold air im putting in. give it a nice purr. But no power gains at all with an aftermarket cat back?

Not really. The most gain you'll feel is in getting the engine pipe remade (moreso where the rear bank merge's)

So maybe its just not worth going aftermarket then, if theres no real gain other than a different sound?

depends on you,
i prefer the sound of the motor to the radio

Hmmm but i do have a pretty sweet stereo. Maybe i should just go for zorst that is louder than said stereo. that would be fun.
Ok i'll do that. really just wanted to know if the pipe size made a difference. Answer= Not really. 6inch it is :P

Ask Trotty, if he's still around (havent been on for ages), we did mine together, adds a distinct bit.

If you guys did a search then you'll have found what I ended up doing to my old KS xi. I swapped the front pipes to a 3rd gen sports with better flow where the rear bank meats up. I also had a hiflow cat and the Lukey LR2779? muffler. Engine mods were K&N pod with shielding and rising rate FPR as well as timing advance. So running on 95 premium I was able to push it to beyond the 220kph mark (approx 10 degrees past the 220 mark) whereas before the mods it was struggling to reach 190.

wow i managed to get my stock TR right to the end of the speedo between kalgoorlie and Leonora, and the revs were still slowly going.

if u want some kind of performance gains, ud wanna at least get a hi-flow cat, and extractors if you wanna spend the cash.
i just had a 100cell 2.5" race cat added to my exhaust.. big increase in lowrpm torque

Yes, but the rada weighs more and also how long did it take you to reach that speed. Mine did that in a very short distance of a couple of kms.

if you got a mappable ecu or interceptor style ecu and a custom front pipe and high flow cat, you would see some good gains, but mostly in the driveability of the car, not so much turning it into a hi-po dragster but a much more streetable cruiser, with good economy to boot (compared to falcodoores)
