Hey guys,
The cruise control recently stopped working in my dad's KR Verada.
The master switch near the ignition will turn on, but the buttons on the steering wheel will not engage the cruise control. The green "CRUISE" light will not turn on.
I have checked fuses already.
So I'm guessing it could be the buttons on the wheel, or the throttle sensor, or the Cruise ECU.
Can anyone tell me where the cruise ECU is located in a 2nd Gen - maybe i can swap it over with one from a wreckers and see what happens.
Any other suggestions welcome.

Joe,
Do you have the downloaded Workshop Manual for TR/TS ? The version I have is a PDF of a SCANNED paper workshop manual, so navigating it is just a bit painful - but it has excellent diagnosis procedures and testing of multiple components.
If you have the manual, Cruise Control is in Chapter 13-5 , and it commences on or about Page 194 in my version of the pdf file.
To answer your specific question, the ECU is in the centre-console, behind the audio system - this is stated in page 204 of pdf file. ECU looks like it mounts vertically, with loom connector attaching from the drivers side, and has a large metal mounting tab on the left side (passenger) and two smaller mounting tabs on the drivers side.
Try to get the manual, cos there is lots of electrical and vacuum components involved and the fix may be much simpler/cheaper than buying the ECU, even at the wreckers. I only have Adobe Reader, so cannot cut-paste any of this stuff for you. Could e-mail the entire workshop manual file if its not available in the Workshop Manual thread.

Hi, the cruise on My kr Verada done the same thing, not sure if your problem is the same as mine but there is a vacuum hose that goes to the cruise control thing under the bonnet where the accelorator cable goes in and comes out, the vacumm hose on mine perished with age I replace the vacuum hose and the cruise worked fine.
cheers

Hey DeanoTS, I will check this too, but if this is the case, wouldn't the "Cruise" light still come on? It would mean the cruise ecu is turning on, but the vacuum is not engaging the cruise.
However, the cruise light NOT coming on, tells me that the problem is occurring prior to the vacuum hose.
Elwyn, I am getting my hands on the workshop manuals now. I will have a look and see how i go.
Thanks.

Both my dad's brake lights were out - - we replaced the globes and PRESTO - Cruise is working again!
Weird, but true!

Great news Joe!
Now that you mention that, it rings a vague bell in the back of my mind that folks using LED's in tail/brake lights have had similar weird side-effects.

Yeah! Bizzare wiring!
The funny thing is, I ordered some LED replacements for my dad a few days ago because his brake/park lights are ALWAYS going out!
I'll see how i go when the arrive!
Thanks for ur help.

Are you serious? Mine was doing the same thing for 2 years, i haven't replaced any brake lights but other the last few weeks the cruise has been working again, but it sometimes doesn't, so weird, i got told by my auto elec that the ECU needed replacing.

Try to download the Workshop Manual (links in its own thread in these Forums) - it has a fair bit of write-up on Cruise in Chapter 13, with several different things to check. Has a troubleshooting flow for Cruise - so you pick your symptom and work through the possibilities as you go. Your sparkie may be correct, or may be only guessing that a replacement ECU will fix an intermittent problem (to be fair to the auto-elec, intermittent problems are a bitch to diagnose).
If its working off and on, it may be as simple as a dodgy or corroded electrical connector.
