The hydraulic tappets on my TE are noisey but quiet down when the engine is hot.
I also have leaky rocker covers and spark plug seals.
I am going to remove /check/replace the tappets and leaky seals plus rear spark plugs at the same time.

The Gregory's manual on the TE is very good and states that there is some form of clamp or holding device available to stop the hydraulic tappets falling out when you lift the rocker assembly away from the head.
Does anyone know what this device is and where you can get it. Is it any good?
It may be possible to tape up the tappets in some way.
Gregorys also say to block up all oil returns in the head with rag so that any tappets can't drop down into the engine (groan!)

Anyone help?

I've had the TE from new (done about 300k) and am vey impressed with it's performance/reliability. I do all the servicing myself as per the book and have run it on good quality synthetic oil. Tyre wear has been the best I've had on any car, the tyres wear so evenly and it has never had a wheel alignment. The above work should keep it happy for another few 100k's.

thanks ,

masking tape . just put a little around the rocker arm to stop them from going everywhere.
