View Full Version : passing cables through to the boot
I decided to install an isolation switch for the reversing sensor (the orignal Ebay one I mounted the unit in the boot and was easily accessible to unplug it when towing a trailer). The new one installed by a crash repairer installed it behind the carpet on the right side of the boot (there was a perfect spot to mount it as it had two vertial bars).
It took me almost 30 minutes to figure out how to route the electrical cable through to the boot. I eventually found that if I pry apart the top of the rear seat back, I can see some thick loom disappearing into the boot. Got a wire coat hanger, straightened it and then put some tape on the tip to prevent scratching the metal and fed it though. I was overjoyed when it came out the other end just above the rear right wheel well. I ran the rest of the cable under the side step. Anyhow, this is just some info if anyone is thinking of passing electrical cables to the boot.

Another way is to remove the rear seat and you should see a hole next to the arches at the bottom
Push cable through hole and peel back carpet inside boot, should see the cable

That is the same hole I was referring to. It comes out behind the vertical carpet above the rear right arch. You don't need to remove the seat. Just grab a door wedge and wedge it in between the c pilar and the seat back. Shine a light there and you'll see the hole.

Have you got some pictures? I'm interested as I need to wire my reverse camera cable through to the boot, maybe even my gps sensor to the rear window. Cheers.

Not yet. I'll take some tomorrow as I haven't fitted the carpeting back. Planning to drill a hole through the carpeting to get to the fuse for the sensor unit that the repairer fitted. With the GPS sensor, it is better left on the front dash especially if you've got metal film window tinting. I had my GPS antenna (square blob) stuck to the left corner of the front dash, between thedash speaker and windscreen and never had a problem with reception. The front is more open as well due to a larger windscreen area.

Thanks for the advice. How did you get your antenna there cleanly? Is there a way to hide the cabling? My thinking was that at the rear window, it won't be noticed so much and I could just stick the gps sensor down with velcro.
Mr_Roberto, my bad, either way, with my method you don't have to remove the seat and it is the hole that the main loom goes through.
assailantsky, there is enough gap between the dash and the A pilar, as well as between the dash and windscreen to neatly hide the cables. Have the cable point to the front, down to the gap, route it around along the A pilar gap and
down the side of the glove box then under it and then to the centre dash. Have a look around and you'll be surprised how much gaps exists etc to hide cables.
Pics as promissed.

Just learnt an easier way to access that hole thanks to a crash repairer. The rubber door seal around the c pilar can just be popped off and the c pilar pried apart to give better access.
Pic 3 shows messy cabling, should tidy that up, and make it more stealth to avoid any accidental damage. Its good to see that you have labeled each wire though...

That bit of messy cabling is just the extra cable coiled up for the beeper. When time permits, I'll shorten the cable. The beeper is actually sitting inside the c pilar. I'll take it out from there and put it in one of the holes under the rear center seatbelt unit.
