I have the '98 Solara 3.0 litre v6 and a bloke has offered me at a reasonable price his '96 - '97 4 cyl Magna which is on LPG.

My question is: Is it possible that his '96 - '97 4 cyl LPG set-up will adapt to my '98 3.0 litre engine?

Since its a mixer setup you wont have any problems in changing it over....

Cool, thanks Andrei. I'll go buy his car and swap the gas into mine (even if it does need a few adaptors or something) :thumbsup:

The only thing it may need is a different mixer to fit the TB but other than that as Andrei said it will swap over.

I just went out and looked at the car.

Unfortunately it is a 2nd Gen '96 TS Exec 2.6 litre in poor condition. Mine is a '98 TF.

All the Gas stuff looks OK, but I think it is the old style Gas kit where the gas runs into a round housing (the bit that ices up) then through a 1" braided line to another 3" thick hose going in the top of the motor.

So I know what you guys are talking about, what exactly is a 'Mixer' setup? Sounds more modern than the one on this car.

The mixer is just the ring or "vapour ring" that screws onto the TB or intake ducting and mixes the LPG into the intake.

Why not just get a new system? They are offering $1750 as a rebate still so it will probably only cost you another $750 on top of that to get a new system thats modern and with a warranty

Mixer is the oldest LPG system on the market, trust me his car has a mixer setup. LPG mixer works something like a carburetor, air & LPG mixes right after your throttle body. Unlike with vapor injection (or liquid) where mixing is done right before valves individually per cylinder but those systems cost around 4500-5000gs. I have a mixer setup main advantage of it that its cheap to buy, if you not planning to keep your car for long its the way to go.....

Yes, I am planning to keep my car for a looong time.
What does the the Mixer system do to the motor that makes you say "if you not planning to keep your car for long"?

You should look at the age of the tank as well, they need to be tested every ten years, and it would need an engineers certificate, registration as LPG convert with your state roads, and the diaphram would be just about buggered by now or at least on its way out. Plus the tune adjustment for a bigger motor.
Better off just getting a new one.

Yeah, I have been thinking about all that today.

$300 for the car with the gas in it + cost of mechanic to fit it + tank inspection + cost of alterations + compliance plate.

Might actually be more cost effective and smarter to just get a new kit put in with the Government rebate.

Oh well, the car is still for sale if any 2nd Gen people want parts off it, not that there are many good parts left on it. It's pretty rusty and worn out, has a leaking head gasket, engine leaks oil everywhere, tyres are perished etc lol
