View Full Version : Thud movement problem.?
Hay all
After replacing my clutch doing fast changes i would get a shock thud through the car. enough to move my ash tray out a little bit and move my rear view mirror down. All my engine mounts were origional but very old. I replaced all engine mounts with some aftermarket brand. I thought this would get rid off the movement ass the engine mounts were all shot. But it actually got worse. I thought to myself wtf. So i asked my mechanic abit about these mounts. He said there stock replacements but they are a harder mount. Replaced all mounts with mitsubishi mounts OMG wat a difference car feel so much better and no shock wat so ever. If anyone buys engine mounts only buy mitsubishi. Plus if i keep driving around with this shock it would off put more stress on my gearbox and diff.

LOL
The "shock" is driveline shunt.
The reason it's not happening with your Mitsubishi engine mounts is because they're rubber filled with oil and are designed to reduce vibrations and shock. Problem is they'll wear out really quick and perish driving like that.
Another thread about you flogging your car. Wonder how long this one will last?

thanks, The oem ones would have been expensive though right?
the harder ones would have reduced the chance of axel tramp, but like you say, the clunk is no good for the rest of the car.
what are you doing with the other harder ones?

Yeah the only thing im pissed off with is that ive put this money into these engine mounts and its all a waste. OEM ones are more expensive yes. I guess im gonna sell them.

Yeah mitsubishi ones cant be that bad considering they lasted 240km on my magna now and still they wernt totally shot.

Mate, how about you just learn how to drive without thrashing your car!
If you do a fast gear change, you can still drive with no "thud", this is caused because you are just dropping the clutch, the thud is still there and just being absorbed by the liquid filled mounts you have back on the car now. These will fail in time but I would say that yet another of your gear boxes will fail well before the mounts do
I fully support helping people with issues on the forums when the problems are not being caused by idiotic driving, when do you need to "quick shift" on the street anyway. Even if you are on the track or strip, then you need to set up your car to run properly given the condition you are driving it for and put up with the inperfections on the road.

LOL. Well i take my car upto willowbank everynow and then. And mabey eveynow and then i might do spirited driving ok. Mabye before hand i was being an idiot but now its not like that. Dont tell me u dont have abit off fun. So your saying that it was a waste of time me buying these mitsubishi engine mounts.? Cause thinking from the engine mounts before with the thud shock to nothing would put alot less stress on my gearbox.?

The stress on the box and clutch is still there, you just cant feel it as the mount is absorbing it. your best investment would be time adapting and improving your clutch control, as this would lead to longer component life and less outlay on replacement parts, and you could use the harder mounts and gain the advantages of less axel tramp, etc. you can achieve fast times without dumping the clutch, infact the shock you feel is energy taken away from fast, smooth acceleration. :)

Ok so the mitsubishi mounts wont do anything compared to the harder mounts in life of a box or diff shock? I was told this thud-shock will kill the diff after a while so if there wasnt any thud-shock to me i thought this would help alot.

Well it will take a tiny bit of the force off but the thud is still happening in terms of the clutch engaging hard with the flywheel and putting shock force on the rest of the driveline, mainly the gearbox as its first in line. If you have put in a pressure plate with a higher clamping force then you will have to adapt your clutch control to suit ie let it out with more control.
