Hey guys, just wanted to know if the wiring on the left is equal to the wiring on the right?
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt310/Rory_Newton/1_2ohm_dvc_1ohm.jpg

On all of these diagrams the wire is always at one terminal first? Its very confusing...

Im thinking im gonna have to splice another cable onto my speaker wire cable as I need the positive on the single cable to go to the two positives and then the neg to go to the two negatives and my terminals wont accept more than 8gauge which is what my single speaker cables are.... So I cant wire up like in the pick on the left, but I can like the one of the right....

Unless I do the wiring on the inside of the box (Ie connect the positive of the one terminal to the pos of the other. etc..) but then this is basically the same as doing it on the outside, and I would prefer to do it on the outside so I then still have the option of wiring my sub to 4ohm if I ever needed to...

What you guys think?

not sure about the picture, it looks the same to me, but i could be wrong, but oyu could just tie in/soldier a 'Y' piece of cabling and run in to the two terminals rather than splice it.

so do you have a dual voice coil subwoofer???

Wouldnt that be exactly the same as I would still be having to solder 1 joint? Ill upload a pic so I can show you guys what im planning to do if the two pics are the same...

Edit:

Ok so heres the pick. The red wires are the ones that are spliced on and the black is the speaker cable..

And an Amp that will handle 1 Ohm?

Yep yep guys all that is good, just need advice on the wiring..

Check my car thread for details...

Thanks man :)

Just asked my dad bout the wiring, and he doesnt seem to think it matters which way it is wired up (picture on first post) as its the same... So I think I'll just do what I was going to and add another wire onto the existing pos and neg cables....

Now as to whether the solder will affect sound quality.......hmmmmmm

Yeah, the first 2 pictures are electrically the same.

If you want the option of configuring it for 4Ohms later, then you'll need 4 terminals on the box and wire them up to each VC. Make sure they're sorted out logically or clearly labelled too :)

If youv'e then got 4 connectors on the box and they are the typical spring clamp type connectors, then you could just jumper the 2 positive connectors with a bit of speaker cable.
If you go with banana plugs, technically it will be better but you'll have to 'fork' your speaker cable to two connectors.

Soldered connections are just fine, better than crimping or twisting wire together and wrapping in tape :)

Ahh thanks mate! :)
Yeah Ive already got the 4 terminals on the back of my sub box with the 4 lengths of speaker wire for each VC (Sub isnt installed yet). Will be using banana plugs too for my terminals (They just look so much neater).
But basically I will be adding soldering another piece of wire onto the speaker wire to make a fork as you said....

So the solder wont affect sound quality?

The solder wont.

The solder ensures you have a physical connection. Using crimps or terminals means you are relaying on a pressure connection. with vibration and whatknot over the years, if this then affects the crimp connection you are going to have much bigger issues.

Soldering is 100% fine.

I usually wire then onto the terminals :)

I usually run dual 16ga ( 12ga equivalent ) to each terminal on bigger woofers. So that means 4x 16ga cables usually fit into 1 spring load terminal.

Yeah, the problem is that im using banana plugs that accept max of 8gauge, and 8gauge is the speaker wire size that im using :(
I just had an idea though, that might or might not work... Anyway, Im thinking maybe putting the two 8 gauge wires into the banana plugs, and then hooking the other two terminals up to them using the normal screw holes. -Although the holes might be blocked by the banana plugs so it might not work. Would be good if I could set this up without having to solder anything though....

Edit: Ok Ive decided not to use banana plugs anymore. The holes in the terminals are just big enough to fit 2 8gauge cables through. So I have used a piece of 8 guage around 1" long and just connected the two positives together (And two negarives together with another piece). I can then stick the 8 guage speaker wire from the amp in one of the terminals with the other 8 guage and so both terminals will be bridged! :D
