Hi all

Got my car back from the mechanic and I noticed it was idling too high (around 1500 rpm in N with no air). The mechanic told me he cleaned the throttle body assembly.

I wound in the idle screw all the way and it's now idling at around 900 rpm. I suspect the screw should never be all the way and there is a problem somewhere..

What do you suggest I do?

Thanks in advance..

its possible that when he cleaned the throttle body and put it back together he put a little too much tension on the throttle cable and the butterfly is permanently open a bit. there are 2 bolts that hold the cable in place and keep tension on it located to the rear of the intake plenum. just loosen them a little relieve the tension on the cable and the tighten them back up.

That sounds quite legit to me. Have a feel of the throttle, does it resit a bit. Another way to test it is to see whether you can (from inside the car) pull the throttle back from the underside, see if it comes back a little. I had a similar problem. Are you noticing any other symptoms, i.e late gear changes, slight fluctuating in the idle speed (even small fluctuations constantly could be a problem). Why was the vehicle at the mechanics in the first place might help the diagnosis.

thread starter the idle screw is an adjustment if it is screwed all the way in then this sounds inncorrect to me. I'd be taking it back to the mechanics & just let him have a look as he will want to rectify his mistake (& probably while you arnt around) so he can spin the story to you.

Thanks ppls. Have adjusted throttle stopper and eased of the idle screw a tad - it's now sitting on 750 rpm. Think the ISS has it's shit together now :)
