Everyone, would appreciate opinions on how good a deal this magna is....
June 2002 TJ MY02 Magna Sports 5speed Manual in Sable(black)
60,000ks
Stock except for dark window tint
From a dealer, except no current rego.
In Melbourne
$19,500
Keep in mind.
*TJMY02 update brought dual airbags,
climate control and those door pod tweeters  .
*The combination of manual, black, climate control is rare... in melb anyway.
*Basic visual inspection revealed up to date books (ex fleet),
that hard to pick indent in the middle of the rear bar that 3rd gens get
sooo easy and small gutter bashes on both wheels on the passenger side.
REDBOOK says for this model spec- av.kays 40-50thou, private sale 17.7k-20.7k
Thanks for your input. :D

If that's the price the dealer is asking, talk him down, they may give you up to $3k if you are for real on the day, and walk out the door if they don't bend. You may have to walk away from what you really like, and leave your number, they may call you back. They prey on the idea that you can't live without that car, so they keep the price up.

Yeah I mean you can get a 2000 Magna VRX for around $17,500 so I mean $19,500 is a bit much. Mind you it is a 2002, a nice colour and all, but especially since its stock, doesn't have rego and has a few dents its not really worth $19,500. If that's your budget I would try pick up a black manual VRX for less. At around that price you could get a series 2 VRX which is the way I would be going with the nicer rims it offers.

Holy Crap!
Which state do you live in? I was looking for months for my VRX and the cheapest I saw was $21100 at auction and that was only 1 month ago. 2001 model (series 1) with 40K on the clock. I've never seen one go for under 20K though. I was hanging for a black series II though. It cost more bit I got leather seats and sunroof as well.
However I think Chief is right for a bit more you could get a VRX possibly with less Ks.

yeah i dont think you can find a series 2 vrx for under 20G's... its just too rare unless the seller is moving countries... i tried to find a vrx but was way over my budget so settled for a sports..

Thanks for the replies guys, i thought it was on the cheap side but perhaps not,
I could slap 17,000 dollars down on the table and say take it or leave it but theyd
probably say no and then roll me on the way back to my car lol
In my expierience the VRX's tend to hold their value a little better in melbourne
anyway and are still the 3-4thousand dollar premium over sports which I could do
without? just spend it on mods like 18's etc.

If the VRX was $3,000 more expensive than the sports when BRAND NEW it can't be worth anymore than $3,000 more than the sports now. One guy said he got a sports for $16,000. That means you could probably get a VRX worth $18,000 - $19,000. If it comes to that get the sports and get your own unique bodykit that looks better than the VRX itself. TJ Sports is a great choice tho.

Hey Kenny, I went to an car auction tonight. They had MY02 TJ Sports, 43000kms immaculate car which went for $16k. It was a blue one though.
BTW I thought sable was a VRX colour only....my mistake. Looks awesome in the sun.

Looks awesome in the sun.OK, so it went to a dealer for $16k, he will put $3500 - $4000 on it, and when you turn up with your trade in, the value of the trade will look fantastic, as that will absorb $2k of that profit, and he still makes $2000 on his car wash, it'll sell in a week. Not a bad turn around.
If you were at the auction, the dealer will stop bidding at that price, and you just bid $200 above it, and it's yours, rather than paying the extra $2-3k to buy it off the dealer.
I hate buying cars from dealers, you just know you are being ripped off.

Just an update, the car went to auction
and SOLD for $17,750 which was only
$500 more than I was prepared to pay,
I didn't miss out by much though, there
were only two bids after my 17250.
Back to the drawing board. :doubt:

After going to quite a few the ones I recommend are:
Pickles - Belmore Mondays 5PM
Fowles - Moorebank Tuesdays 9:00am or so
Alliance - Moorebank Tuesdays 1:00PM (actually they are across the road from fowles)
With alliance if you go to inspect on the Saturday and you ask the guy nicely you might even be able to take the car for a test drive. That's what I did, fell in love with my car straight away.
There's other auction houses but after observing some of there practices I'm not a big fan.
I like Pickles the best though, they seem very professional and each car is inspected by the NRMA before auction.
If you've never been before I recommend going to one where you are not purchasing just to get a feel. It can be a little overwhelming.
Good luck. :D

yeah... i got mine recently from auctions.
02/2003 TJII Sable AWD Sports
(sports comes standard with climate control)...
60,000k's on clock ... immaculate inside and out.
cost $19,250.
But a lot of ex fleet cars (especially ex police cars like mine) auction without rego...
and thats $50+ for RWCert (plus costs of any fault repairs... inc tyres and windscreen chips)
plus $30 for a VicRoads inspection...
plus $80+ for plates to be issued (i think)...
plus (and this is the biggy) 4% stamp duty of market value of car (NOT purchase price)... and they have m/v at about $34,000 at moment...) ... $1,360!
So u gotta pay about somewhere around 2grand ontop of purchase price for a unrego'd auction vehicle.
But even so... $21,000 for a Sable AWD Sport in as new nick and with 18months of warranty left... BARGAIN !
so i do highly recommend www.fowles.com.au and www.pickles.com.au as part of ur window shopping!

I got my 2001 tj sports through autospeed.com.au from an I.T.guy in Melb, last Oct. It is lowered, has full Talon GSR bodykit,F1 window tinting, tow bar with chrome ball and cover, 84,000 k's on the clock( he reckoned 40% country k's and 60% on mainly Citilink)was(and still is!) in perfect condtion and cost me $19,000. Mind you he was originally asking $23,500!!a few months earlier. I reckon it was a bargain despite the km's, he'd looked after it beautifully, fully garaged, regularly serviced and respectfully driven(this was proven by the fact that he still had fair tread left on the original Bridgestone Turanza tyres!!!) So you can be lucky. Amazingly, he'd had a few phone enquiries, a couple of insulting offers, and I was the first person to actually inspect the car. I snapped it up!!

i got my ralliart for 39000. it 19000 on the clock. i went in with a 97vt berlina(biggest bucket of sh*t) and got a 14600 trade on it. they paid on road, taxes, six months rego
and 6 years of warrenty, road side assitance.
i've got a rally who's a salesman here are some tips:
* be very confident
*go there knowing what your talking about.(from what i've seen you guys do)
*don't tell them how much you have to spend, tell them how much your going to spend.
*always tell them that you are looking at others and tell them where they are.
(this is the hard one)
* find the biggest prick on the sales ladder and talk to him, after hes a prick tell his manager
and the manager will help with all means. than start again.
* as old mate said. be prepared to walk away.
remember this. car yards are happy to make at least $500 on each car. that pays the bills.
screw before they screw you.
these are tips. if you don't like them arr well. i tell you know they don't care about you.

Price sounds ok, just check to make sure in Vic if cars can be sold without rego from a dealer...in NSW they must have min 6 months rego.
