I was doing a search for towbar wiring and found an old thread in the 380 section that said that Mitsu offered a plug-and-play wiring kit for towbars. It connected between the tailight loom and the body loom, eliminating the need to work out what each wire does, solder connectors, etc. Does such a kit exist for the Magna (TJ in particular)?

There's one available for the KJ so I presume there's one for the TJ, (it's probably the same one.)

I've got it lying around somewhere, I'll see if I can find a part number on it for you.

Don't the KJ's have the reverse lights in the boot?

They're run off the left tail light, I believe. I'll check tomorrow.

This loom plugs in between the tail light & the existing loom & splits off to give the trailer light loom. (If that makes sense?)

Trailers do not have reverse lights so is not an issue

These looms plug into the LHS tail light loom and there is a grommet lower down that they pass through to go to the tow bar

That'd be tops if you could find out the part number alscall :D

Thanks for clarifying that, I was scratching my head about whether or not I had ever towed a trailer with reverse lights lol So it'd be the same part for both TJ and KJ?

Umm I wasn't refering to trailers having reverse light. I was indicating that the KJ's have the reverse lights in the boot lid and wanted to know if the harness was the same down the line further e.g. near the tail lights *facepalm

Sorry mate, did not see where you were coming from

The plug is the same, the Verada loom from memory does have the wire there for the reverse light and they use the same plug thus why many get verada lights and plug them straight into the Magna and some to get Magna Lights and plug them into Verada's (why confounds me though)

So in short, the plug is the same and the reverse lights will still work on a Magna given that the adapter plug simply has a m and f plug with wires going straight across, the trailer loom then just patches off the middle, is a little like an extension cord

Oh and just to clarify, my TF had the KJ Verada loom and worked fine, a customers TF wagon had the same KJ loom works fine, only one I had an issue with was my TE that is running TJII wiring and I had to repin 2 of the pins to the actual trailer plug for some reason, again is a wagon loom so there must have been a revision right near the end of the TJ series as this was from quite a late car

I bought one from Alan Manche Mitsubishi and it plugged straight into my TJ in a couple of minutes. It comes with bare wires on the trailer end so that you can put on whichever socket style you like (flat or round).

Interesting. Mine is one of the leave it in the boot type connector using a flat cable. It is connected to the right-hand side loom behind the carpeting.

The part number on the bag with the loom is AW343958.

This is for the loom only, as the actual towbar part number is different.

On my TL wagon, it's the same. Aftermarket towbar & it's spliced in, I think, rather than plugged it - as your's may be?
