Greetings everyone. I just recently re-purchased a 1998 TF Magna. I used to own a TF Solara which i sold to my brother (and he's sunk thousands into it since) and bought a 1991 CB Lancer Sedan with the money. Now that I've re-purchased a TF Magna i have a question. The seller tells me that the previous owner annihilated the previous 6G72 3.0L engine by depriving it of water and as he was about to fix it, he found someone selling a 6G74 3.5L engine. So he put that in instead (which had only done 110,000km apparently) only a few months ago and now the car is mine. My question is how can i confirm this. I did spend a bit of time under the hood of my 3.0L Solara and i can tell maybe 1 or 2 things that look slightly different, but 99% of it looks identical. Is there anything i can see visibly to tell its the 3.5L engine from a TJ (he said it was from the 2000 model Magna). The engine does 'look' very very tidy and very clean, almost brand new.

Check the engine number, it will start with 6G72 or 6G74..

Look on the engine block mate, near the transmission, Not sure what you will have to remove to see it on a 3rd gen, and it will confirm to you what it is by saying "6G72" or "6G74" stamped into the block casting

remove nothing, you can see the engine number by looking on the engine block down the bottom. Look from the top just to the left of air intake and you should be able to see it clearly.

Ok no worries i will check it out shortly. How does the 6G72 compare to the 6G74? I'm assuming the 74 has more power, but what about fuel economy. Anything in particular i should know about the engine, pros or cons?

A few cheap mods you could do would be the usual clear side indicators and tint as you suggested, also lowering makes a world of difference.

Best bet would be to open a thread in Members Machines and go from there.

My brother got chrome internal door handles and that bit behind the handle in chrome. Ebay sells em and they look great.

because thats a diamante grille/headlight setup only that one there in wa as far as i know. and i dont think bens moved the paperweight in a while:P

looks very nice! What about the tail lights? Other than the altezza, which i'm having doubts about how it will look. Are there any other options?

again, im not expert on the third gens (yours being a 3rd gen obviously) but you have a few options
1 night shade the standard ones
2 track down some ke/f/h ones (preferably with a boot so that you get the lights on the boot also)
3 the altezzas
from here on in is a little more expensive
tj rear end conversion
4 kj tails - do a search - very common in WA for some reason:nuts: (to the point where we joke you are unique if you havent done it:P probably the nicest of the stock options.
5 black or chrome ebay jobs (halfway between the altezza and say the lights on an upper spec 380) more sporty look.

6 anything else i havent thought of. like i said 3rd gens arent my thing.

when getting stuff off ebay need to watch as the te/f/h has the kink in the side of the taillight the tj doesnt. and the tl/tw have a more rounded one each either dont work or look odd when paired with a boot from one of the other models
