Does disconnecting the battery reset the ECU?
How long does it need to reset?
My trip computer(2004 KL Verada) flashes after it drops below 160km range, my 2001 TJ Magna flashed at 40km range and ran out of fuel after 30km more. I hope that resetting may bring it way down from 160km, which is a fairly useless reminder.

Can someone tell me how to reset the ECU to default.
It is a 2004 KL Verada as I said before.

Yeah that 2nd part is to reset the Trannies ECU(its neutral to drive back to neutral, allowing it to sit for min 3 secs each move, repeat 5 times. Then do the same with neutral to reverse. There is a 2nd part to reset it, where you go from a stop to 60kph at a moderate/steady acceleration, slowing down to a stop again, then repeating 5 times on a flat road). Note - Its not necessary when doing the engines ECU.
When you reconnect the battery and start it, if it runs rough, like at idle. Just let it idle with all accessories, a/c etc turned off for 10-15mins.

if you remove the battery, you will need to do the tranny relearn as this will be reset as well.
you dont HAVE to, it might be lumpy for a few k's but it will eventually sort itself out.
And to the OP, it is very unwise to deliberately starve an engine of fuel
