This is for a 3rd gen but it will be same for most other models.
I need to get the metal chunks and shavings out of my gearbox from when my diff blew up,
i was thinking of using a garden sprayer with diesel in it to spray and wash all the gears with. And hopefully getting all the shavings etc out as well. Are there any better ways?
Thanks.

If its a manual box I can see this working - put some diesel in it, give it a good shake, and tip on end to drain. Grit in the bearings would be the main concern, but turning the shafts by hand should give you an idea of how clean they are.
How about using a garden hose on full blast? Followed up by some oil and a few hours in the sun, of course.

if u have a air compressor use it. spray diesel/kero over the gears to clean them and then dry them using compressed air. if they still dirty use a rag soaked in diesel.
u can use a garden hose to do it BUT u have to dry it very quickly and really good. even a short amount of time with water vapor on them will cause them to rust.

deisel + garden sprayer worked a treat, flushed ot woth a good liter of diesel and saw some little shavings coming out. Thanks guys.
Oh, i would avoid the garden hose because unless you are sure you can get you bearing (front and rear) fully dryed and lubed up again.

Water would be silly, me and dad used to clean out train and boat gearboxes with diesel in a coke bottle with a hole in the lid.
