Thought i'd save thread space and chuck 2 questions into one thread.

Question 1 - I am due for a service soon but i cant afford it, its a minor so i was going to do the oil from home (as long as i can get my damn sump plug undone :( unlike last time) but i required new spark plug leads. Where can i pick up a good pair at a good price and is it as simple as disconnecting the leads from the distributor (individually because i know it doesn't go 1 2 3 4 5 6 most likely 1 6 2 5 3 4) and plugging them back in?

Question 2 - Is an altenator question. When i bought my car the altenator died so i rang RACV and a gent replaced it for me. Are there different 'grades' of altenators? like different capacities? I know the battery is mainly used for getting the car started then the altenator does most whilst driving, but my lights dim when i am stationary. I was going to change the ground but thought if its just a altenator that isn't up for the challenge of a sound system i'd slowly replace it. So my question is are there like altenators for just standard every day cars and ones for cars that have sound systems and require a stronger and more powerful power delivery?

Your looking at hundreds. My mates lights used to dim in his CH lancer. Put in an optima yellowtop, problem gone.

I had 1400WRMS of stereo music in the TR and the little 85A alternator was fine. 3rd gen ones are like 110A there should be enough in there for at least 2 amplifiers.

Optima Yellowtops, i've seen them around. I might go have a look at one, i dont wanna get a new altenator because its new, the battery is oldish so when it goes ill replace it.

Thanks paul :)
