Hey guys I'm kinda new to this site and i've found it very useful in fixing my magna TE from wat condition it was in before. Anyway i was just wondering if anyone new how to get to/replace the "D" back light between the speedo and the rev in an automatic magna? The other back lights seem to be working its just this one that i miss when it used to work :(
Thanks :)

easiest and simplest way, take your cluster out and swap the bulbs for the 'L' and 'D' indicators :) sure you won't have all the indicators lit up but when do you ever use L any way?? if you are a perfectionist, take the bulb into your nearest auto store and get a replacement. Personally, I think of them as 3 spares for the 4 I do use :)

Oops, sorry, I was wrong, but now I know, and as soon as I get time I think I'm going to pull out the cluster and try the 'L' light swap idea.

I must say I was alot happier when I could tell myself that there wasnt anything wrong with my magna and that it was how it was supposed to be, now its going to annoy me every time I have the car in drive :(

Yeah the light does work, just swap it with the L light.

Do a search on cluster removal, it should be pretty straight forward.

Wow, really? Drive light failure must be a common issue on magnas then.

Not quite sure but perhaps because of the higher Ks on these Vehicles...just a guess. The cluster isn't very hard to remove. You simply have to be careful not to lose the screws that could easily fall behind the stearing which you probably won't be recovering.

Take a picture if you're uncertain how to put it back together.

While you're down there you may as well change from black dash dials to a nice white with blue back lights like mine  but that's a job for another day.

It gets worn out - it's on nearly the whole time you drive.

Yes, pull the cluster out and swap bulbs over. Undo 2 screws that hold the cluster cover on, drop the steering wheel down and wiggle the cover out (there a point in the middle top where you need to insert a small flat bladed screwdriver to lever some clip thing down). When it's loose, reach under the cover and undo the speed alarm and other cables plugged into the cover.

Once the cluster is exposed, there are 4 screws holding it into the dash. Undo those, extract slowly and disconnect the wiring loom attached to the cluster. Don't lie it flat on it's face, sit it up how it normally is in the dash. Find the bulbs in the back of the cluster and swap them over; they rotate 90 deg and withdraw from memory (have a manual cluster now so no trans lights).

Reinstall is exact reverse of removal.

If you get stuck, I'm sure someone can give you a hand. If you're anywhere near Cranbourne, let me know, i'll swing by and help out. I've got a couple of the bulbs spare as well.

Regards, Tony

Why do you need to pull the Needles out??? You should be able to take the Cluster out in one Unit, and change the Globes from behind...... Unless Magnas are different??

thats a good point actually...you can pull the whole thing without the needles...just the whole thing :iough:...now that I remember correctly...mybad, you do have a point there. Ha thats an easier job then.

Um, I wouldnt remove the cluster, the D light is not supposed to work, I dont even think there is one, well it doesnt in either of my magnas, they dont want to bother people with a light thats on during most of their driving.

Glad to see accurate and consise information being given yet again, if you dont know dont post and confuse others please

It is common for this light to die first as it is on most of the time

Do as others have said, either swap with the L, get one from a cluster at the wrecker or go to Mits and pay the 18 odd bucks for a new one lol

The cluster is easy, 2 screws up top in the surround, have the steering wheel all the way down, pull that out, 4 screws hold the cluster in and a single plug on the LHS top which will be easy to access once back a bit
