Problem: why did Mitsu use plastic screws to hold down the two plastic panels in front of the windscreen (and covering the wiper spindles). One has rounded off with age and one has also warped and the seal that butts up along the windscreen has disintegrated into little pieces.

Has anyone replaced these two panels and can you replace the plastic screws with metal ones?

From memory they're around $30 at Mitsi - and yes I'm pretty sure you can replace the screws with metal ones. Those plastic things are a pain in the butt...

why is the left one more expensive than the right one?

Just inoutting my 2c worth. Mitsu still have not corrected the seal. Mine deteriorated after 4 years and was replaced under warranty.

You will also find that if the dealer does not have stock that one side is ex japan so will take about 6 weeks to come in. The 2 sides are also a slightly different shade of black which in annoying

Anyone know what type of screws would make a suitable replacement for these plastic ones?

Those little plastic clips with a plastic screw in them seem to be used everywhere to hold down exterior trim pieces, apparently you can get them at some car shops, im yet to go looking though.

The gutter/leaf guards have a soft lip that rots away quickly here in the WA sun, but if you remove them you can trim the soft lip off easily and reuse them. Any of the screw in plugs that don't work get drilled out or cut off, then replaced with christmas tree plugs of the right size. Autobarn etc have them. Easier to remove later. A quick clean and spray with matte black pressure pack while they are off the car and they look good. Wouldn't bother to buy new ones, they will only rot away too.
