Hi all, i just purchased an obd II Pc interface and data logger from e-bay thinking all vehicles 1996 onwards where compliant. Oh how i was wrong.

The plug will not fit the diagnostic connector under the dash, as far as i have pieced together from the forum and the electronic factory service manual my 04 TL magna uses an OBDII standard transmission protocol just through a stupid Mitsubishi MUTII plug, my question is is there a plug/adaptor i can build or buy to make this stuff work or have i spent lots of money on something i will never use, or should i just buy a 380gt to go with my OBD tool:)?

yea i found the proper plug a little more to the left of the one i was looking at (a smaller white one) now the software won't connect, i have the correct com port set but i may have the wrong bits per second set or some other tedious little detail wrong, i know some of you guys have had experience with similar equipment such as evoscan and the like, so any insight on what may be going wrong will be much appreciated, the software and equipment i am using is called Auterra Dyno-Scan if that helps.

Does the 1996 TE have an OBD or OBDII connector at all or is there some kind of proprietry connector that is accessible to the owner? I wouldn't mind building an OBD interface but it's pointless if there is no way to connect it.

All 3rd gens have an OBD-II plug but you are correct, the protocol is the proprietary MUT-II. You do need a special cable. Do a search on the forums, there's heaps of threads and info
