howdy
i was just wondering where i could buy the colour backgrounds for the dash tachos. and a rough price??????
cheers
what do u mean coloured backgrounds? coloured face or lights?
lights u could get LEDs or coloured globe cover things (rubber thigns that go over ur current globes to colour them)
as for faces...white is common, red is nice, and u can get EL face, where tehw hole face will glow up green/blue/white, and look white during the day

I'm not sure where you can buy colours other than white, but you can get the white dials which are just white covers that stick onto your exisiting dials. These are very effective and they come in two styles - White and Illuminated. The White ones are just the white covers, no more, no less. The Illuminated ones are the same as the white ones, but come with an invertor that you can hook up to your dash light circuit and they glow blue or green (they come with a control panel that allows you to change in grades between the two colours, and also has a brightness control - the control panel is also "glow-in-the-dark").
I'm not sure where everyone else got theirs, but I purchased mine from: www.emtechautomotive.com.au (http://www.emtechautomotive.com.au/)
emtech does them, but i think they're a bit expensive....................dunno

Are the Illuminated ones the same as the Etronic dials?
http://www.etronicauto.com/etronicauto/el-dials/mitsubishi/web/mitsubishi.htm
They look pretty decent. Just wondering if any of you know the price?

Emtech quoted me $295 plus postage for luminous dials
I'd rather save that towards the radar detector so I don't need to check my speedo so much lol lol

Yeah, mine cost me $275 from Emtech, which I now believe is a bit of a rip-off.
In my defence, I wasn't a member of AM when I bought them, so I didn't realise I was getting ripped off, and I had a regular income then so $275 wasn't as big a deal as it is now. :doubt:
Haha, yeah one radar detector or two tanks of petrol (well not really). lol

I emailed etronic last night. Not much better response:
"Hi the cost for the el dial is $295 plus freight charge $15, with you
particular model you need to send the cluster to us so we can get one make
up for you. thanks where do you locate???"
Send the cluster? What the f@#$? Not terribly impressed they have to make one up for a 2000 TJ auto. I'd rather go with the dials from emtech. Tried and true I suppose.

I have a mate in NZ that "claims" he has made his own for hit mitsu GTO
He says u can take out the original dials and scan them but print only whats necessary in black on white photopaper. He said he even put his own logo on them. Then he used Flexiglow EL sheets and cut the dials from that and put them over the new white one back into the cluster, connected the el sheets to the light switch and there ya go!
I don't know how true this story is but has anyone used this EL sheeting and do you think its possible?
I got my white dials (with green backlighting) from the Spoiler Shop in Myaree.
I believe that they also do EL dials.
Their website is pretty crap but take a look anyway: http://www.spoilershop.com.au/

You can get diamante ones like i did from the U.S from:
http://www.procarparts.com/store-subcat-model.asp?categoryID=3&subcategoryID=37&maker=MITSUBISHI&model=DIAMANTE
or :
http://www.alfaotto.com/store-subcat-model.asp?categoryID=3&subcategoryID=37&maker=MITSUBISHI&model=DIAMANTE
Only problem with that would be that they are in mph rather than kph...
they look good otherwise though!

The red numbering on the inside is the KPH reading :D

Damn, those Diamante ones look nice.
BTW, how much did it cost you all up including postage to get it to Australia, if you don't mind sharing the info?
Thanks.

They look fantastic. Don't think I could stand the mph though. I'd be forever looking at the speedo trying to work out what speed I'm doing instead of looking at the road. :slap:
could u not recalibrate something so it reads out kph on the mph scale? like, strangely sized rims or something :belt: if u do that tho...only reads up to 160 or whatever, which is a bit pointless

That wont work as you could calibrate 100mph to be 100kph, but above and below it will read differently as one mile does not equal one km, so the distance between the numbers is different (the numbers are mathematically mapped out)

Guys seriously if you want to do this, take out your cluster and remove the dial skins, scan them and photochop your own leaving the marks which illuminate transparent on the image
Take your design to a printing place - ie Snap printing - and choose a transparent vynal film of your choice of colour and have them print onto it. Where you left the markings transparent on the image will now illuminate the same colour as the vynal film. Trust me looks a million :D
Bingo bango you now had a set of custom dials that will look a million. I was going to do it for the TE but the VR-X has a nice set of white dials
Its just sooooo easy!

all though they have a kph reading it does not match up but the mph reading does so 30=60kph, 40=80 etc , i know these dont equal that but thats what it lines up with the orginal dials underneath as i worked it out with the speed alert, but i got a RSM anyway so doesnt matter
with the cost i can only tell that i bought them off another guy on this forum for $90, but if u look on the U.S site there like $35 which equals around that

how do you take out the cluster panel? is it self do-able ? i really like the instrument panel clarion's got but disappointed its in miles rather than in k's.
someone should do a mass production then of what aussiemagna said... i reckon it would be more convineitn and cheap if one person was given say $10 or $20 (whatever the snap costs are) and get that one person to print them all up... rather in us all fkin around and pulling and scanning :) cause thats the one deterrent i have in replacing them and scanning/printing my own. :)
Else if your doing mass-buy of those diamenteones (allthough they are in mph). .. should consider a mass buy... for postage and discount reasons
Edit* baaah, sif bring alive an old thread >.<
