Gday there guys,
im new to this forum as i just purchased my 99 Magna Solara.
i was wondering about the alarm system that comes with the car. It doesnt seem to be working. im not sure where abts under the bonnet the system sits or how to check if its broken or just turned off. either way, is it better to upgrade the alarm system or try and fix the current one? would installing an aftermarket system be hard?
cheers

The mitsi system is actually excellent, the immobiliser is activated even when using the key to lock the car, you will notice a green light on the dash says "security" when you do, and is only deactivated when the key is inserted in the ignition and the BEM reads the code on a chip in the key. common problems are the remotes as they tend to break internally at the battery connection, a search will find a howto to fix the remote or you can get replacements from mitsubishi or Ebay. under the bonnet the alarm horn is next to the washer bottle (on my 97 KE anyway) looks like a standard disc horn, check wiring. as for the actual unit i believe its intergrated into the BEM module, and i cant remember where that sits. hope that helps!

Have you got a link to the remote repair isntructions? I couldn't find them and my remote is having the same issues I think.

I know my issue is a battery contact issue, because if i smack the remote it works, and if i open it up and push down hard on the battery it works.
From what I've read you just need to solder the contact points to the battery, i'm just not sure which part to solder.

ive locked the car with the remote and lil security light has come on.
ive tried shaking the car and kicking the wheel and pulling the handle but nothing flashes or anything which leads me to belive that its more than just the sound not going off. ive never seen one of these alarms go off so im not sure. are the lights meant to flash or something?

theres two points to solder one is on the outside, easy to get to the other is a bit harder its more in the centre...i got an auto sparky to do mine as im shit with soldering iron... works alright?

roll your drivers window down fully.
close get out of the car, close the door and lock with the remote.
Wait 1 minute, and then reach in and flick the lock open, and open the door. This should cause the alarm to go off. I don't believe the alarm will go off from shocks, only is the locks are disengauged without the key/remote.
I might give the remote a good solder on the weekend.

+1 to this.
The alarm will only go off though - if you unlock through the open window and then OPEN the door though (in my car anyway)
Does your car beep at you, if you try to lock the car with a door ajar / boot open / bonnet popped?
Its to warn you that the car isnt secured (closed up) and to get you to go back and check to make sure the doors are properly closed.

funny actually, as soon as I read this forum the other day my alarm system seems to be acting up. I don't know whether its related to anyones issues here or the original poster but some of you might have answers.
I recently noted my alarm keeps going off on its own. Arming and dis-arming is OK. Nothing wrong there. If it goes off (after I've armed - maybe an hour or so or maybe even 5 hours) i'll simply stick my key outside my window and disarm then arm again. I know for a fact my cars front door has a problem with the contacts (in that when I open the door sometimes the car wont recognize its open and won't give the door ajar warning or ceiling light). Other times it comes on. Other times It does...I don't know where the pressure sensor on the door is though
Oh and when the car is armed and I open the boot, the alarm will go off. BUT if I dis-arm the car (using the remote) and open the boot (ONLY) without one of the side doors, the alarm (after about a 30 seconds) will re-arm then (most probably after a few seconds) go off. Has anyone else experienced any of the above symptoms?

i tried the open door thing and nothing happens. that y i was kinda worried. anyone could open the door and nothing would happen. no flashing lights no sound. but wen i lock the car with the remote and a door is ajar it does beep out. so the horn is connected and working fine. i dun think its the remote as it locks and unlocks the door no probs and still sets off the horn if the doors ajar. any pointers on how to troubleshoot the actual alarm and how come its not on. im inclined to think that theres a loose circuit somewhere and its not feeding the alarm any juice from the battery.
watch do u guys think?
sorry just on a side note i fixed my remote the other day and as someone mentioned i tried to solder it but then the solder points came off the board so i put a small piece of cloth in there to wedge the battery on and no problems since. just remember to reprogram afterwards :)

Wait...so you're arming the cars alarm using the remote, and it arms (light starts flashing). Obviously shaking the car wont set it off, its not impact sensitive. Try opening the boot with the key whilst the alarm is on. Also, try opening the driver door and/or passenger door to isolate the problem. Obviously try it one by one and see what you get...

i can tell you know the door sensor thing your talking about is as you open the door on the bottom left, its a little black thing with one screw, open it up and just give it a clean may work may need replacing from mitsubishi...

:roflwtf: I feel so silly now. You don't know how many times I've sat there starring at the door looking for it with no luck. I guess im so used to my previous Toyota which has in on the middle left so thats where I was constantly looking. let me give it a clean and see how it goes

i arm it with the remote and the hazards do their double flash. the security light goes on, but wen i open the door or boot without disarming the car, nothing happens. do u think its the alarm thingy-ma-jig in in the engine bay?

Just out of curiousity, try the same, on ANOTHER door.
IE if your testing the drivers door currently, test it on the front passenger.
ie - put window down, lock with remote reach in and unlock and open door.
if the alarm then goes off - it could suggest that the drivers door switch, is faulty, and not telling the BEM / alarm, that a door has been opened...

just to let ya know, if you disarm the alarm and dont open a door, it will rearm itself and lock the doors again, after 30 seconds as a safety measure, even if you open the boot. You are testing by opening the door from inside, not with the key right? These systems are armed/disarmed by locking/unlocking door with key as well. With my alarm on i can open boot with key and alarm wont go off, this normal?

yea
i put my hand through the window and unlock and open door from the inside as if someone hu'd smashed my window would enter. the security doesnt turn on again after 30 seconds for me. the security light only comes on wen i lock with the romote.

Mine does the same to yours in the sense that if I turn off the alarm and open the boot WITHOUT opening any doors it will rearm itself after about 30 seconds. If this is a safety measure that's GREAT! Means I have no problems there
However, if I turn on the alarm using the remote and open MY boot with the key...My alarm will go off. I'll have to check about opening the door with a key whilst the alarm is turned on, I'm pretty sure mine will go off but that's not confirmed. I can't check now or the neighbors might get a bit upset but will report back in the morning lol
