Shameless plug for a workshop that I have been thoroughly impressed with (and I am picky).

Trutrack Pty Ltd: 52-62 Leveson St North Melbourne 3051 (03) 9326 5392

I have been chasing a problem with my car drifting left for 3 months now, have had 3 wheel alignments at 3 different places (including the one that I usually go to), rotated my tyres back to front, left to right, even put old wheels/tyres back on.

I spoke to Luke and after having a chat about my driving style and what gear I have fitted, he test drove the car and then set it up on the rig. What followed was the most thorough job I have ever seen. He had me sit in the driver's seat to compensate for ride height change, then corrected the alignment and put loctite on the camber bolts to ensure they stay still for as long as possible. He test drove the car and then put it back on the hoist to double check settings haven't changed.

It cost $90 (4 wheel) and took just over 2 hours from start to finish, but this includes a free alignment check after 5KKms/3 months. Most expensive shop I have used but also the best.

My car tracks perfectly straight now, it handles like a totally different car around corners; I have my lift-off oversteer again. These guys look to have mostly a hi-po customer base; in the time I was there, 2 WRXs, a Clubsport, an XR6T came in. It's a very small shop with 2 rigs and a cafe inside with a huge glass wall looking into the workshop.

Very happy with Trutrack, 10/10.

60Kg, when I sat in the car the right front camber increased by 15min so the final setting was 1deg15min left, 1deg0min right.

Everything Whiteline have available for my car I have (and more).

You need to differentiate between normal wearing, scrubbing, and scalloping patterns on the tyre.

- Normal wearing leaves the surface fairly smooth; scrubbing leaves a rough surface, and scalloping looks like fish scales.

- Uneven wear on the inside edge is usually due to excessive negative camber; unlikely if you have done minimal suspension mods or unless you have lowered extreme amounts. Although SLs are probably a 60mm drop which is a LOT?.

- Scrubbing on the inside edge would be due to excessive toe-in (left tyres) or toe-out (right tyres).

Scalloping would be due to extremely abnormal amounts of toe which causes the tyre to skip along the road, or that your dampers/springs are worn and/or working against each other.

If any of the above problems occur with your rear tyres then you have a problem as the alignment is non-adjustable. Usually 'fixing' it involves a sledgehammer or replacing the rear trailing arm axle.

I wouldn't trust BobJane to align a shopping trolley.
