hey guys whilst answering another question, i was running through fault codes in my workshop manual (Haynes TE - TJ2, KE-KJ2) and discovered there is one for a Knock sensor fault, which we all know, or thought we knew, our cars dont have. it is code 31 on a scan tool and in book. so whats the go?? do we have one after all?

V6s DONT have a knock sensor in the 6G74 range at least.

The 4cycl EFI cars - did have a knock sensor though.

pretty sure the same ECU was used to suit all engines?

ECu is different for the 2 engines, one is 6cyl and one is 4 cyl thus there are issues with 2 injectors missing etc etc

You will find the base programme is the same in so far as fault codes go thus why it is listed as other ranges not in Oz may have had knock sensors

Yeah i noticed looking in the wiring diagrams while trying to find it there, that on the engine control circuit diagram, between the airflow sensor and the throttle position sensor was a sensor labled Variable resistor and in brackets it has PACIFIC EXPORT ONLY. possibly this could be it on cars mitsi sent from aussie to NZ etc?? Not sure a variable resistor would work in this application, as a knock sensor. oh i know the V3000 here do (2nd gen magna) as my brother has one and the owners manual states that using 95 over 91 will net a 4kw increase in power, and im assuming a knock sensor controls this.

Yeah, the ecu advances the ignition timing, giving you more power and economy.
I had a dyno tune, and now running on 98ron and picked up 7kw and 15Nm at the wheels

74 DOHC has knock sensor.

Yeah i knew they did and thought maybe mitsi saved money and used same ecu for dohc and sohc versions, hence the knock sensor fault code. ahhh well, nice to dream!! hey tuffy, do the 30M 3l mivecs have a knock sensor?

its fair to assume any of the higher compression motors that mitsu built would have a knock sensor...

Hmmmm so 199kw 3l DOHC Mivec + 98ron+ octane boost =
