View Full Version : Way Too Loud!!!
Just had a 3" exhaust sytem installed on my car and I'm having trouble keeping it at a sensible level.
I figure there are two options,
1. install a second resinator, or
2. Replace the back half with a 2.5" pipe,
Or i suppose i could do both.
Any suggestions?

Got a vid????~ :D
Installing a second reso might help..... I know my exhaust really quietened down when I got my big reso put on.....
Might be worth going 2.5" aswell as that is what is recommended for magnas anyway....

Had a 2.5" on my other one but thought a 3" would be better for the charger.

Ohhh ok, didnt know you had a charger! Probably perfect size then... ASAIK
Maybe just go for another big reso?
I'd go for EZBoy's suggestion and get a varex as the closed butterfly at low revs will help with low-end torque, he made a post about this recently (I think in Apricot Rocket's thread?)

afaik, resonators don't do a great deal to reduce overall noise, I thought they cancelled out lower frequency noises to remove the drone through the midpipe.
As for varex mufflers, great devices but I've heard they are much more restrictive compared to a normal muffler, standard or aftermarket, due to how it works. The chambers the exhaust goes through are much smaller when in 'quiet' mode and would put a strain on the system. And with a system like yours, you wouldn't want a whole lot of restriction at higher revs for lengthy amounts of time.
Plus, if you get checked on the spot by EPA, this will incur a fine, regardless of whether it passes noise level tests or not as having a 'temporary' baffle is still a breach. I don't know what WA is like, but mobile EPA checks are a worry for the guys in VIC.
What muffler is on your system now? I would have said replacing the muffler with a quieter but still less restrictive than stock would be the best option if noise is an issue.
Spoken to my ehaust guy. we are taking out the first reso and replacing the back end with 2 x 2.5 reso's and piping.
I hope this makes a difference.

I believe EGO did this (using the biggest muffs he could find) and it still wasn't legal...

i think the purpose of the varex, is to keep you under the radar, to avoid the cops in the first place

What rear box is on your car, you could wack on a VRX/SPORTS muffler to quieten it down a little
