Anyone actually removed their resonator box.. If so have you noticed any change in noise, performance or anything?

Im thinking about taking mine out but im not sure about the results.. Or even how to do it.

If anyones done this before could you explain it somehow?

thanks

The general consensus is that it isnt worth it... it might mess with your idle - and it might make the engine sound meatier...

It had no effect on mine, and had negative effects on others... in the end you just gotta find out if it does what you want it to by trying.

i did it on mine, made the car sound louder, but i did it the same day i got my exctractors and bigger exhaust so i couldnt tell the difference really.

the resonator boxes are there for a reason, leave them there! its to do with air flow into the engine, those boxes are tuned so that the flow is as uninterupted as much as possible... if you take those out the pressure waves when you let off the trottle will bounce back and disrupt the air flow more than normal, causing more sound (not good) and less response and power!! All cars should have them, Porsche have them, Bugatti have them, holdens have them, suzuki's have them.... oh and ferraris have them!!! leave them there!!!

Rip the bloody thing off. Bell mouth the shorted pipe. It improves air flow into the air box with it being there.

The reason they have them is to reduce intake noise to comply with ADR's.

I have increased fuel economy a bit.

Try it it doesn't harm anything. If you don't like it put it back on.

Just make sure you leave you filter in for God sakes !

now im confused.. everyone has different opinions..
Who else has done it and had good or bad outcomes??

i rekoon ya just take them out, plug them up, have a drive round for a while, see if u notice any difference, if its something bad just put the resonators back on, sweet as

Just do it mate, makes the car sound like nothing else, especially on the 4 cylinder astrons. If you don't have a pod, GET ONE!!! it will make such a difference to the sound. will turn heads!

Exactly as Meh said. Try it..it's reversible so just give it a go.

I did it and got good results, some people havent. The only way to find out is to try it.

OK ill give it a go..

How do you do it now??
Stupid question but i dont wanna do the wrong thing...

Go to your local supermarket, or a servo and buy to bottles of poweraide, they should have black lids. You don't even need to drink the drink you bought because you are only after the lids. Place the lids in the existing holes with the thread facing out and re-tighten the clamp. Done

Ok i took the boxes off and plugged up the holes with milk bottle caps..

Havent had a chance to test out performance, but from what i can tell it theres a more deeper rumble coming out from the cannon

Thanks for the advice!

there wouldnt be a deeper rumble from the cannon, u would just get more induction noise from the front of the car.

i must be going crazy then..

I only drove it for a minute, so thats all i could tell.. But yea you are right there is more induction noise aswell, as you said..

are you going to leave them plugged up? Noticed anything else since you've had the resonator boxes off?

Yea im leaving em off, i havent run into any probolems at all and it does make the engine sound a bit better.. other than that i cant see any difference as yet. But i have been using my old air filter, which is a bit dirty.. so maybe when i get a new one or a pod or k&n panel i might find a difference then.

Has anyone got any results on a 3rd Gen?

The way I see it is that the mitsu engineers would not have wasted their time incorporating them into the induction design if they had no use. Does anyone know what the actual use of these these things are?

Whats the repurcussions of taking these things off?????
