my coolant level is fine and just in the last few days when sitting at lights my temp goes up high.... once i start moving at first it goes up as the revs do but then as the car is moving it begins to cool back down... i know the fans are working parked it in my driveway and checked..... when i did this the fans were spinning full blast the coolant level was ok but the temp was quite high...... any ideas???? and how much would i be looking at given possible problems $$$$ ?????
Could be the temp sender. Get it checked soon because if it's not and it is overheating you can warp the heads

as above sounds like ure thermostat is stuck half way open....
what kinda condition is ure coolant in??? might be block hose...
In my case, the thermostat jammed closed. Cost was about $50 to fix and it took us about an hour (Peter_Pan helped me with this one). Also replaced ih8hsv's, same symptoms.

Water pump maybe? Air movement over block when moving could explain drop in temp, maybe.... ??? Or, if not working 100%, extra revs helping to get water moving....

Lots of guesses, the thermostat is the most likely cause or a blocked radiator but the second is not usual on a third gen
Heater core will not cause overheat unless is leaking very badly and you have lost all of your coolant, you did mention that there is no coolant loss
Be careful with aftermarket thermostat as the Magna needs a special thermostat, wrong one and you will melt your engine

Mal, mine must have been really leaking because mine was overheating and i still had a fair amount of coolant left. But yes, it most likely isnt the heater core then..

i there may be a leaky heater core as i noticed a bit of water on my carpet and after further investigation it appears to be coolant leaking from under the dash.... how much to repair this????? what if i dont???? simple solution to bypass heater core.... but how much is a new heater core and how much to install it.....

its actually an o ring type seal on the heater core that perishes and causes the leak, i believe it is a really cheap part, but requires the dash to come out to replace. if you are good mechanically, get a workshop manual and do it yourself as i know most places will charge a fair bit due to the labour time involved. Mal (madmagna) can do this job easily and has done many times so i suggest you pm him if you are close by. I think he may even have a way to do it without removing the dash, im not sure.

depends on how much u can do ure self.... never done it before but some say u can get to it without pulling the dash out but most say full dash out (and aircon degassed?) the heater core itself one up on ebay atm for $100 new.
if u chose not to fix it u will need to bypass the core place a hose between the two heater hose connections in the engine bay. just means u wont have a heater.... just don't let it continue to let it leak as the ecu sits below it. and there are a few stories of them screwing up cause of leaking cores.

Guys i Had my 96 Te serviced last week and been told the Heater core has been Bypassed and needs replacing. I am in Adelaide and am curious if anyone can tell me where i get this Fixed. My mechanic was honest and explained he hasn't done a magna one before.
Is there some way to do it without ripping out the Dash????
Cheers
