Hi Guys,

Just a quick one.

I've got a TJ Magna 3.5 litre(6G74 I'm pretty sure), built August 01.

It's got around 257,000k's on it now.

Was parked on steep hill a couple of days ago, saw the oil pressure lamp come on, thought nothing of it, being on the hill and all sure enough it went away after about 20 seconds, however I was driving around this evening and it was back on, popped the bonnet and checked the oil levels, sure enough it's got bugger all oil in there.

However, I had it serviced, only a couple of months ago and they changed the oil while it was there, so I'm assuming the oil has gone somewhere, bit too dark to check for leaks at the moment.

So two questions:

Before this happened, I was considering getting someone to progressively rebuild the engine for me, but with a TJ engine with as many k's as it's got on it, is it worth progressively rebuilding?

Secondly, I'm thinking it'll be a good idea to get someone know who's a bit about the engines to take a good look at it and provide some advice, but the local guys around here are shit and the official mitsubishi dealer has left town, So i'm wondering if anyone can recommend someone anywhere in Northern NSW or even Brisbane.

Cheers.

Smithy

For starters what do you mean by Progressivly Rebuilding your engine, you need to either rebuild it or get another one, you can not do it bit by bit

The oil use could very well be from the place using bad or poor quality oil. Get some good engine flush, Penrite HPR15 and a decent oil filter (genuine if you can) and do a good service, give the engine a good 20 or so minute run (idle) with the flush, drain and refil with the Penrite. keep an eye on your levels and you may find that your issue may have been crap oil in the first place

I'm down at Coffs Harbour and have an excellent mechanic at Speedy Lube ... http://www.speedylube.com.au/
They have done all my cars over the last 6 - 7 years and I've had a few and mainly magnas plus a couple of exotics. Have about 6 trained grease monkeys so if one of them can't work out the job there's always someone else who can.
Reasonable prices though they are in the centre of the town district so very popular with business types.

As to your car fill her up with oil again ... go to a mechanic and get it inspected or washed down. You may not need a rebuild just a question of ensuring that you check the vitals oil and coolant etc each week. I make mine part of my Sunday evening routine
