hi all approximateley 20,000 kms ago i replaced the front disks on my tl ls with dba 4000 slotted rotors. everything was trouble free for about 10,000 then under medium to heavy braking from highway speeds and spirited driving i noticed loud humming and vibration, i dismissed this as the slots passing under the pads or something (a bit of denial) then about a month later while cleaning the wheels i noticed dark shadows on the rotor surface and fine cracks on the rotor surface that i can see and feel if i run my fingernail over the surface of the disk.

my question is do you think i am running any risk of catastrophic rotor faliure or would machining the disks possibly remove the surface imperfections and restore smooth braking?

Doesn't sound crash-hot mate, can u put some pics up with a camera on macro mode so we can see the cracks? If it's really bad dba should replace them. What pads do u use? What's your driving style? Do u tow?

This is very common on these cross drilled rotors, thus why a lot of companies only dimple them now and not drill them

I have seen so many cross drilled rotors crack and a few fly apart as well, personally I would get into a brake place like ABS and get these checked now

Get onto DBA straight away and get them replaced. That sort of failure should be covered by them.

OP has the slotted and not the slotted & cross drilled. I had a set of the slotted on my old ks which lasted less than the lucas pads on there (approx 10Kkms from memory or a bit more). Got onto the phone with DBA. They initially asked if I purchased genuine and I said yes and gave them the shop I bought it from. They then asked if I used appropriate pads and I said that ABS recommended the Lucas pads. They then sent me an email offering a free replacement set.
