im getting a EVO 4 setup, the seller claims the calipers dont need a rebuild and the disks are above minimum thickness.
$375 del price sounds right, what do you guys think of the condition of the items?
i cant see anything wrong with it.

Ask them to measure the rotors and compare them to new so you know how much life is left in them. Bit of a clean up and get handy with some paint and they should come up great.

I'd be getting those disks machined, or just get new ones, they look like dogs balls.

Calipers, the dust boots look alright on them, and as long as the pistons slide in without argument you shouldn't have a problem with them. Rebuild kit would be nice but not altogether necessary, it's just easier to rebuild them while you have them off the car and to have that peace of mind that they have new seals and aren't seized.

The pads look like they've got a fair bit of meat on them, but I'd get new ones anyway.

$50 a pair tops if you take them into the shop to get done.

Ring around and get some quotes.

It would be worth getting them rebuilt while there off the car, mine cost me around $100 to do the seals in them. And plus they cleaned them up

yea mate, one of the brake shops hear in town. You would be better off getting them done up while there off the car now. and when they clean them they soda blast them. Have a look at my members ride thread for pics

soda blast? do you mean sand blast?
thats what i did when i painted my current ones. coated them in caliper paint and put them in an industrial oven.
just cant get any of the brake fluid on the paint as it makes the paint bubble

Get the seal kit and do the rebuild yourself, its painfully simple. A seal kit is usually only $10-20 (in NZ). I would do it because they are off and you know they are like new. Also gives you a chance to check the caliper piston and bore for pitting or corrosion. as for pads, get new ones. I just spent 2 days mucking around driving to and from the testing station as i failed a wof on unbalanced front brakes, fully flushed system and replaced with new fluid, deglazed discs, freed up seized sliding pins on caliper, and it turned out the drivers side pads (near new, but cheapies) were contaminated somehow and causing a 38% imbalance. new pads and all good!
