Hi guys have qiuck question about my TR,

She wont start , when you turn her over you can here this dull roar souds aboit like the themo fans but isnt.

Has new leads, spark plugs, dizzy, water pump belt, altenator all done by ultra hoon (TUNE).

Am thinking maybe the inhibitor switch has failed as she makes the Inbitior ticking noise ( Alot softer than normal though ) intermittanlty when you try to start in any other gear than neutral or Park, The rest of time regardless of what gear shes in she wont start.
Question is if it the inhib siwtch how much is to place and are they hard to source.


Havent beleted the starter motor yet as it hard to get to.

your battery terminals don't need a good clean?

is this a V6 or 4 cyl

this is normal you are only supposed
to be able to start an automatic in neutral or park

the inhibitor switch -get one from a wrecker

check the switch is lined up correctly (the unit is adjustable)

the top hole is neutral has to line up with the bottom hole

Magna buff its a 4cyl and like said the car does the same thing when starting in any of the gears.

Didnt notice 3 weeks ago when I started her I had to have my foot almost to the floor for her to kick over.

have you cleaned out the fuel filter ?

is carby or injected

I have pulled the inhibitor switch apart and fixed it
inside is just copper strips making contact

not yet was replaced 2 months ago.

ok the inhibitor switch wiring loom sometimes
runs under the side engine mount
hope that wont cause a problem getting it out

Oh its injected and forgot to mention on the dash the (i) lights up when you try to start her.

Sean wont start in P or N Gives the roaring sound. In any other gear sometimes give the Inhib buzz but very soft or nothing at all.

You normally do that when you cannot start again after a long drive where the starter solenoid has seized in the open state. In that case, there won't be any sound coming from the engine bay. I had to carry a small hammer in my KS.

Gave the terminal a clean, checked the dizzy, then belted the starter but now nothing so I think the starter is shagged. think its a job for RACV as the starter is a bitch 2 get 2.
