HI

I just finished a service on my auto transmission today (TE Magna 3.0 V6). I just had the dipstick in my hand, engine idling, slowing topping up the tranny and checking the dipstick. I almost had it right, when suddenly the lower radiator hose burst (thats right!) and I rushed to turn off the engine (with the dipstick in my hand...) Now I am horrified that the tranny has filled with coolant...
I am not sure of the amount which worked its way into the auto, but I dipped the dipstick into the oil pan a few times to find some green bubbles sticking to the stick... I havent started the car since, but I dont really know what to do! I know water is fatal to autos because the glue which holds the friction material to the clutch packs is water based?

Any ideas or suggestions anyone? I was going to let it sit overnight, hopefully the water will sit on the bottom. I will then crack the drain plug and wait for the coolant...

Cheers

that sucks, well first off do you know that the coolent water is heavier than the tranny fluid?
and if it is, just because you drain the sump doesnt mean there isnt any in the torque converter, which is where most of the fluid lives. if you want to be safe, drain fluid compleatly, by draining the sump, then removing a short length of rubber hose that runs to the front of the radiator, stick a tube on it leading to a bucket and run the car in N untill no fluid comes out. i think i wrote up a full DIY of it a few years ago.
i know that tranny fluid is not cheap, what did you do when you "serviced" it?

Do tranny lines go into the radiator for cooling..?? If so that the first place i would be looking at..

May need to be flushed to get rid of the water. My sons TJ2 was a freshwater flood damaged repairable write off & the tranny had water in the oil. Had it flushed and all was good.
