Hi All,

I did a bit of a search around and couldn't find any info, so I apologise if I'm covering old ground here.

My KJ Verada's climate control seems to be crazy. It always blows freezing cold air at full blast when in "Auto" and more often than not it's allegedly 27 degrees outside (even at 1am, although given the climate in Sydney these days that might actually be accurate).

Has anyone else had trouble with their climate control? Is there a simple way to reset or recalibrate it? I can only assume that it's reading the internal temperature incorrectly.

Have you ever had the climate unit and/or stereo fascia out? There is a concertina hose which may have come off (or not been reattached) onto the back of the climate unit - behind the temperature knob. It blows a sample of air-conditioned air over a temp sensor wire and through the tiny grille near the temp knob. If it is not attached, maybe that is screwing with the air-con "brain"....... tho dunno about the outside temp read-out.

EDIT: Had a look thru the PDF Workshop Manual. You can get diagnosis codes for Climate Control thru the diagnostic plug under drivers lower dash panel. There was nothing obvious in the "fault symptoms" flowchart describing same scenario as you are having. Would be well worth reading that Auto Air-Con chapter though.

i think the outside temp reading seems to be affected by road temperature, reflected heat and or heat soak from the engine.

i did see that little vent next to the control knob, cool to know what its for :)

Where the white concertina hose blows air into the back of the control unit it goes through some small slots.

When I changed my HU a couple of years ago I noticed that the slots were getting blocked with dust.
Suspect a pull apart and clean will fix the problem.

I discovered the little hose was off mine the other day. Must of knocked it when doing the stereo. Now that its back on it works properly now. It actually sucks air past the sensor using a venturi.

On very hot days the outside air reads way lower than what it should be, say 19c on a 35c day. I've heard that the new commodores have the same problem, except that it then brings in outside air to try cool down the cabin instead of running the air conditioner.
