View Full Version : 3000gt turbo manifold into 3rd gen

Ive got an opportunity to get my hands on some 3000gt (6g72) turbo manifolds really cheap (one of my best friends moved to Japan). Im talking about under 100US plus postage. You can probably guess what my question is. I realize that there was only handful of 3000gts sold here so im guessing no one would have tried that, but still is it possible to fit it into a 3rd gen? As some of you would know getting turbo manifolds & dump pipes fabricated here will cost over $1500 supplied only.
I would appreciate if someone can help me without getting into a debate on whether its worth turboing a magna as apposed to just buying another car. And yes I know that a twin turbo setup will set me back around 15k… So I’m just looking at this option as a possible saving…
Cheers

nah $100 is the going price at import wreckers....you could probably use most of the 3000GT stuff and modify it. you can pick up a TT 3L for about $2200 from import wreckers. Was tempted to buy one when doing the conversion but decided NA is cheaper in the long run.
manifolds will need a different adaptor plate and the ports are oval not round......alot of work either way...

best mufflers is good, he as done some work on magnas before, and he does custom manifolds too
Chris is his name, nice guy too
i think chrisholm takes his car there too.
if you could get the manifolds setup and ready to go pretty cheap, doing the work mostly youself it could be a pretty cheap build.
2nd hand turbo, oil return lines to the sump. intake piping. upgraded injectors mabey a fuel pump, and a Piggyback ECU would work.
you could do it for under $5000
just run it at low boost non intercooled 5psi so no need to touch the engine

I am currently doing a twin turbo conversion on a 3rd gen and it will come in under $4000.I am not running big boost 7 psi so i won't need to crack the engine and modify it just yet.I will be later on down the track then winding up the boost.Breakdown is $3000 parts and i have budgeted $1000 for tuning etc.If you want some info just PM me.

yeh wont work... engine for starterss is oposite facing and for a 3.5L im sure the ports are different size..as stated above it'll be too much work... either buy a GTO ( can people stop calling it a 3000gt already i hate that name) or get custom manifolds made up.... probably will be less work

Under $5K for a reliable setup? Hmmmm

personally I'd like to see your breakdown of parts. intercooled too?

That's correct BUT was saying if you can score some TT manifolds cheap you could weld on some new flanges and be done with it, but yeah.
Personally if your going to do it properly, it's going to cost ALOT more then $5K. I spent $1300 tuning an NA motor. have fun getting it tuned for under $1000 on a turbocharged motor.

i would give it a go.... i can make the manifolds, and mout the turbo. and do all the plumbing work. just you will need a tuner.

Just wondering if you are talking about turbo manifolds or the inlet manifold?
