Anyone else noticed that the power aerial on their TJ got noisy after a year or two.? Mines coming up on 2 years.. and the noise of the aerial going up/down has increased lately. Get Mitsu to replace, I reckon.
Anyone? :)

Do you mean a noisy motor or the actual shaft when it emerges?

The motor.

The motor.
I haven't had any problems, Even my KR Verada was fine. I think you should get it replaced.

can u possibly grease or oil the shaft? i know mine sometimes stops a tad early (normally only 1 section before it's completely retracted) i think it might be "dry" or something? would that cause friction, or is it normal?

The mast itself shouldn't be greased or oiled at all; it can do more harm than good and cause it to attract dirt once extended; this gets all stuck inside when it retracts and can lead to the rope snapping or motor failure. The internal assembly has SH1TLOADS of grease inside so it is maintenance free. If the motor is noisy might need a replacement.

Thanks dude. Coming up for $45K service. (which is oil, brakefluid and coolant change 2.3 hours = $$$$) so, I will get them to check.

Just spoke to my Mitsu dealer... he reckons he would grease it. Interesting. Of course, he has to see it ... before he can comment. But his advice goes against yours. I like yours.

Mine used to get noisy not long before the nylon toothed strap on the end of the mast stripped. Had the first replaced around two years under warranty. Second time out of warranty. $82 for a mast!!! Easy job to put in yourself but price was highway robbery.

Yeah Tek is right. Never oil or grease the shafts. Only collects dust, grit and dirt as it sticks to the oil when the shaft is up and ends up jaming the shaft after a while. Best maintenance for an electric or any antenna is just to wash the antenna shaft when it is fully extended when you are washing your car. Car wash is fine on it. Just do it last because you usually get dirt and grit off it.
you never tought of fitting an antenna a-la Lancer EVO? It should look perfect on a VR-X, don't you think? :)
