Hi all,
I have a TH Magna which came with 1 central locking remote that did not work. I replaced the battery and it still did not work. I followed the guide here - http://martybugs.net/magna/remote.cgi and it still doesnt work (could be faulty workmanship on my part!). I have since bought a 2nd remote on ebay which the lock button and the small grey button that doesnt seem to do anything work, but not the green unlock button.
What I want to know, is there anyone out there who is good at working with these remotes who would be interested in having a look at them? I am in Sydney and happy to pay for someone to take a look and try to fix them. I am wondering if the actual button on the circuit board for the grey button can be swapped with the not working green one on one remote, and if the other remote can have the solder joints checked and see if that is the problem or not?
Ultimately I would like to have 2 working remotes, but worse case I would like 1 remote that works to lock AND unlock! Anyone think they can help?

Have you re-registered the remote to the car? It should need to be done every time you remove the battery from the remote. Procedure is in your manual, otherwise, turn the key in the ignition from ACC to ON and back to ACC repeatedly (5 times) - just keep going til the indicators flash once. Then press any button on the remote and if the remote works, the indicators should flash again - meaning the remote's registered. Turn ignition off, you're done.
The small grey button opens the boot, you need to press it twice for the boot to open.

I did try to register the remote, but I got no response regardless of which button I pressed. The solder joints were broken, but I tried to fix them albeit very poorly, so this could be the problem with that remote still.

I have a station wagon, so is this still relevant? I am pretty sure I tried pressing it twice and it did not do anything, hence the reason I dont mind swapping this actual button with the unlock button on the remote if it can be done. I will double check if it does anything today though.

If you want to post them to me I can resolder the broken connections and test them on my car. I fixed 3 of my own and also added a couple wires for a 'fail safe' mode :)
Just to put your mind at ease, designing and fixing electronics is my job :)
I am in SA though.
Yep that's all it is, they are poorly designed and fail often, just re-solder the terminals for the battery and away you go.

I got tired of trying to repair/replacing mine so I got an aftermarket alarm and piggybacked it onto factory system. Haven't had an issue since.

i've also recently had trouble with my remote and didnt know what to do, i changed the battery and all but it still didnt work, but then read this post and just re-registered the remote to the car and it works  thanks SupremeMoFo your a champ!
And if the DIY day didn't sort you out, I'm able wield a soldering iron well enough to have a go for you.
I've fixed a Toyota one a little while ago and did high school electronics, so as long as the bits aren't toooo small, then I think I could help.
LMK if you want a hand, I'm in the Hills district.
Cheers, Graham.
