Hi guys,

My car has been choking up going up hills and even more so when loaded.
When I say "choking"... I mean it is having trouble accelerating. It seems to want to go and is trying, but failing.
I have changed my pump and filter and AFM. Recently the problem has been getting worse. Choking under any kind of heavy acceleration and much worse than it used to be when the A/C is running. Any ideas would be appreciated :)

Do your Leads, dizzy cap and plugs, and the a/c takes a lot of grunt out of it, A/C idle might need adjusting to

EDITWhat model and auto or manual

I changed the leads and plugs too... forgot to add :P
I know the A/C cuts down the power, but before it wasnt so bad. Its an Auto...

Default setting mate, not everyone changes it when they sign up.
Leads and cap again. can break down under load. then again, can also be alot of other things too but do the easy ones first.

TPS i doubt. it will either give a reading or not, it wont give a feint signal unless there is a TON of resistance in the line.
TPS would not be the issue (someone correct me there if I'm wrong dont wanna be giving out false information)

Before you go throwing parts at the issue have you checked for a leak in the intake system? A lose hose clamp connector or a split in the line is all it takes sometimes.

The 3.0L engine likes a good rev, but the gearbox likes to hang onto 4th gear. Floor the throttle or manually disengage OD or shift down, when going up hill, worth a try. It isn't a torquey beast like the 3.5L, not much grunt below 3,000 rpm, especially with a loaded car/wagon.
Still worth checking ignition parts and timing, MAF sensor, air leaks etc.

Oxysensor, $20 fixed my stutter problem, Maybe try that...

I would be looking at the exhaust also, a choked CAT or rear muffler will cause what you have described, a lean running engine caused by fractured or missing vacuum
hoses generally cause a backfire or two (not always though) if the car runs fine for a few minutes then chokes up I would change the CAT.

Cheers. kik.

I'd go more for it being an ignition problem. Again check the plugs, leads, dizzy cap, coil etc. Be aware though, I had a dizzy cap that looked fine, but gave me masses of issues (topic posted about this) similar to yours. New dizzy cap fixed mine. BTW, Autobarn was the best price, at $57, so they're not cheap like caps used to be.

So I checked my dizzy and rotor... cleaned up the rotor contact and had no change. I had a feeling the timing might be off and advancing it fixed my problem :D The problem wasnt caused by me retarding the timing, so Im thinking that I have adjusted for the existing problem. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Is it advanced or now just at factory spec? Whats the timing actually at?
