Hi All,

I really need to some help on this. Magna TS 2.6 EFI

Had the car overheat during the week twice both times had coolant steaming from the overflow.

Anyway i checked and replaced the coolant, the radiator cap, the overflow bottle, and cooling system pipes in case of a pin hole also checked thermostat and water pumps and all was ok there too.

Big problem occurred yesterday evening.
Gurgling/hissing noise from inside the dash. Misty steam coming out of the dash and vents. Engine overheating again. Bugger.

Anyway got it home ...just.. let her cool down and found radiator empty and overflow drained empty.

Leaking somewhere.. Heater core???
This morning after a refill of coolant and water i ran the car for 10 mins and found it leaking pissing out coolant.

Leak is located just at the firewall connection of the heater core pipes.
The passenger side floor is soaking wet. From what i know and have read here this is a heater core issue or possibly an A/C piping leak?

Can anyone tell me if there is a way of resolving this issue without removing the entire dash??

I don't care to use the A/C or heating in the car i just need it to drive so if there is a way of simply disconnecting these pipes to stop the leak then please advise how.

Thanks in advance.

on the engine bay side, find where the hoses go into the cabin

Heater core leaking is a common problem in the V6s.. didn't know it was in the 4cyls.. I don't know for sure but this MIGHT be a side effect of the over heating?

There are two hoses in and out of the cabin you can bypass it by hooking them together - but if it's overheating otherwise it may be another kind of problem - i.e. buggered pump or blockage, etc.

I really recommend you just take it to a mechanic and get them to look at it.. otherwise hopefully someone who has actually experience seen this (user or mech) can comment further.

Have a good look at both hoses that enter the firewall into the heater. It may be a simple problem, where one hose is leaking and a jet of coolant is going past the grommet into the cabin area. If its not that, bypass the heater and test your cooling system for leaks. I have a TS 2.6L with original hoses, might have to look at mine . . . . .

Hi All,

Many thanks for the feedback.

Its now resolved. No more leaking. The bottom hose of the two leading into the cabin thru the firewall was leaking at the connection to the cabin just at the firewall.

Yesterday morning i found that the coolant was empty in the radiator and filled her up again. I ran in the engine and saw the dripping on the concrete under the car. I traced it back to the bottom hose. This hose whilst looking nice and clean on the outside was crusty and brittle on the inside.

Anyway i replaced this hose that morning and made sure that the connection was nice and snug and securly fitted.

In all the panic and worry about the interior i decided to remove the glove box and housing and see if there was any bad moisture patches to try and clean up

Anyway again I filled up radiator with coolant and ran the car in for 15 mins. No drips!!! No leak !!!!!! Phew!!!

The smell in the cabin is not nice so ive had to leave the doors open and rest the car in a nice sunny spot to allow for the remaining moisture to evaporate. ECU did seem to have any moisture condesation on it.... Lucky.....

In the last 5 days i have learnt more about my car via its various issues than i could hope to.

My fiance thinks i'm nuts for spending time on the car but i dont. The more i figure stuff out with the car the more i enjoy owning a Magna.

Thanks again

Girls are like that. They think that secretly, we love our cars more and they get jealous. Just tell her that reliability is your aim when you work on your car (suggest that she might not like pushing the car in the dark and wet when it breaks down) and that really you are thinking of her while you work on the car. Do this with a serious and concerned look on your face and you MIGHT get away with it! lol

PS Coolant smells like fish. It gets worse as it dries out.
