i have a tj s1 solara and wanted to know about installing a blackout cluster

i have a blackout cluster and and trip computer from a kj1 (coming in post anyways)
i want to fit this into my tj s1
how do i do this?????
simply remove the cluster and plug in the new one???? or does some of the loom need to be changed and if where????

also as far as the trip computer goes i have no idea about removing this is it also simple ie plug just behind unit????

I think for a tj s1 you need to replace the dash wiring loom to a kj s1

apparently the dash i am buying comes with the loom but where abouts do i change it??????? and does it plug into somewhere or does it have to be spliced in??????

is it simple to chnage the plug do the cables go into the plug in the same spot on both or do they need to go in a particular way.... is the reason why it needs to be changed because the plugs dont match or there is more or less wires or they just need to be in a different configuration... sorry if i sound stupid but i have never done anything like this and when i do it i want to be able to do it straight away with no problems.....

The old loom will need to be cut out as when you remove the cluster you will see how it is attached and near impossible to get off behind where the air vents go

Is a little hard to explain but the new harness can go under he metal plate where the cluster sits and the plugs will reach up and clip in as normal

When I do them I remove the dash so I can get them back in where they belong

i know i may sound stoopid mayb i'm missing something but when you attach the new loom from the kj dash do all the wires match up exactly to their corresponding colours??? or is it more complex??? is there more wires on one loom than the other????

and what about the trip computer is this connected on the same loom or is its wiring seperate and need to be spliced???? and if so same deal????

once again sorry if i sound like i'm bugging you.... if i was in victoria i would just go and get you to do the work (madmagna)......

The cluster and the trip computer are on the same loom im sure its a strait swap so no splicing but pm Madmagna and he will be able to let you know for sure:happy:

as stated above in this thread madmagna states it is not plug and play and that it needs to be cut.... i was wanting to get a little more info on how to do the job so i can possibly do it myself......

right now i know the wires need to be cut but have no idea if it say as simple as the plugs just dont match but you cut the loom and then red goes to red and yellow to yellow etc or if its more complex

i will be changing my cluster over to the verada blackout cluster and also the trip computer(tj s1 to kj s1) when i replace my heater core.....

what i am wanting to get is a DIY on adapting the harness...... mayb some photos......
as i understand the dash and trip comuter are on the same loom... so i remove the dash.... unplug the old ones (i imagine the plug will be farily obvious) and then how do i adapt the new loom into the existing wiring.....

if anyone has photos would be good......

Just plug in the new loom, that is all you need to do

but you said here it needs to be cut????? is this only if i try with the dash in...

dash out KJ1 into TJ1 will just plug and play....
now i seem stoopid asking so many questions when i just didnt understand properly......

Yeah mate, I can confirm it's plug and play. I have done it myself. Get yourself a set of dash tweeters while you're at it. The wiring for them should already be part of the loom. It was on mine.

would love too but i have an aftermarket stereo so how will that work????? would have to wire them as splits to my door speakers... but to do that i would have to buy 6 inch splits then i may as well use the ones that come with it... or is there something i am missing?????

If you get Verada door-tweets (or the 3" dash speakers, too), they are not true 'splits' - each speaker has a capacitor to filter frequencies, and all are just tapped of the L and R front channels of the HU.

Using Verada OEM door tweets and dash mids, you could easily do things the same way as the OEM set-up. If memory serves me correctly, the Verada door speakers in Verada were bit better quality than Magna ones (in my cars). But after-market can easily improve on the stock items.

However, a "proper" set of of splits using crossovers would be better quality approach.

well i am pretty sure that there is aftermarket 2 or 3 ways in my doors however until i get splits mayb i could get the dash speakers and run both the door speakers and dash ones off the front channel of my head.... depends on the watts on the dash speakers... i imagine very low and not much difference if they were spliced in......

i purchased what i was told was a kj s1 blackout cluster and trip computer... however upon recieving these items it appears to me to be a kjs2 cluster and a standard magna trip computer......
part numbers are cluster - mr920857 n4b
trip computer - mr908 656

can anyone confirm what parts these are?????

my concern lies in the fact that....
1. my solara is a series 1 therefore has an analog odo and not an electronic one found in the series 2
2. the trip computer.... will the trip computer in the centre work if there is one in the dash?????? and i also heard that the blackout cluster needs the high contrast trip computer to operate properly..... can anyone confirm any of this and help in anyway.....

i am not a fan of the trip computer in the dash and would much rather the trip computer in the centre display.......

i have the wiring loom for this so wiring it in should not be a problem so mainly i wanna know can i have the trip computer in the centre displainstead or aswell as in the dash????
how about the speed alert?????
and the standard buttons for operating the trip computer?????

sorry for so many questions but i dont really know alot and i have been sent something other than what i was told it was......

have just discoverd it is a kj1 dash......

still about the trip computer....... it appears to be built into the dash..... is this correct?????
will the dash work with the non high contrast centre display?????
will the trip computer work in the centre display??????

ok i have done some research and managed to answer almost all my questions.....

the kj s1 had the trip computer in the centre...... why then on the dash is there a button for odo/trip???????

still unsure as to what centre display i have.........

alright seem to have answered all my original questions now..... it seems i have a kjs1 cluster and centre display...... jeez now i feel like an idiot for being unsure in the first place and also a dick for spamming my own thread with stupid questions i have managed to answer myself quite easily with a little reading.......

i do still have my new question.... if the centre display is the trip comuter why then does the dash have a button odo/trip and the lights near the odo include one that say trip???????

this thread is going on 2 years but i have a blackout cluster with centre trip computer that im going to put into my magna soon, and i was wondering the same question as you - why is their a trip/odo button on the cluster if the trip computer is in the centre?

magna_vrx_turbo

There is 3 trip meters in total. Trip meter A and B in the cluster that can be reset individually and additional trip meter in the centre trip computer that resets with the centre trip computer.

if you take out your dash its a lot easyer l did mine in about 2 hours yes there is a couple of extra thing's but you dont plug the in. plug all in to the fuse box and the others dont worried about them.
