Hey guys went to the tyre factory today looking for some rims found some I like but the guy said that 19's won't fit is this true?
they will fit but they will rub on the inner plastic guard and they mite rub on ur flares- both on full lock.

I have a TF and mine dont rub on the inner guards or GE flares. I'm running 235/35/19r tyres. So long as the offsets right you should be fine??

ahh fair enough. i'm running 245/35/R19 tyres. that probly explains it... :)

I ran 235/35/R19 on my 2nd gen no problems. And on your 3rd gen you can take out the plastic gaurds easy as just the passenger side will expose the ECU wiring... And if you have a panel beater friend, get your gaurds rolled, I got all 4 done for $100 bucks cash

I've got 245/35/R19 on my wagon, only rubs on the inner plastic guard on full lock....reckon when i get new tyres i'll get something a little smaller to stop the rubbing....but otherwise, they'll fit

19's will fit fine
I've got 245/30/R20's and no probs turning only scrubbing when the suspension crouches down.

they will rub on the inner plastic, but as stated above, they "mite" rub on flares... :)

I've currently got 19x8.5 rims with 235/35/zr19 rubber and only rubs inside guard slightly if I go around corners quickly. Keep in mind though, that 235/35/zr19 rubber is illegal, then again, so is the size of the rim on my car (3rd gen that came with 16" rims)
EDIT: Forgot to mention I have 35 offset. You can check here how flush it sits with guards

Any 19" x 8" with a 235/35 tyre, offset +35 or +38 will fit just fine, without rubbing - (it may rub on flares, however).
It'll be the same physical size as any standard 18" tyre & wheel package. You increase the wheel, reduce the tyre - the Overall Diameter remains the same, a basic fact that most of TTF workers seem unable to comprehend.
The biggest problem that you're going to have is to find a tyre with a higher load rating than 93.

I have 18x8" +38 rims with 235/40R18 tyres and they scrubbed like buggery on the flares. I took mine off, but you can just trim away the top part of the flares. It's only plastic so something like a dremel (or a dremel imitation) should make light work of it. I also had my rear guards rolled - the tyres sit *under* the guard so you're bound to have a scrape sooner or later.

i have 19x8.5 with 245's +38 offset on my awd and have no rubbing or scraping of guards/flares even at full lock.
Go to a Tyre joint and get them to test fit a set they wont charge you if they think they are going to make a sale

From what I hear, this may not be entirely accurate, unless your overall tire circumference has changed. I was told recently by a wheel shop (they had a full page government notice sitting on the counter) that the laws had been shifted (finally) to allow ANY (:woot:) rim size to be fit on a car, regardless of largest factory fit so long as the total rolling circumference/diameter (unsure which it was, am double checking now) of the tire didn't change by more/less than (I think this is the correct figure) 15mm. Apparently this was changed a few months back but no one was told... :hmm:

is that for all states or just for SA?

we never do anything first here in SA, too scared we will get it wrong or something, it will have been brought in somewhere else first, as always check the regulations for your state.
I'm pretty sure that all states now allow for any DIAMETER wheel as long as the overall tyre diameter is kept within 15mm of the details on the tyre placard.
So my car has 215/60/16 tyres. As long as it's safe, then I can legally put 25" rims with 235/5/25 tyres. Of course, tyres aren't made in a '5%' profile and it wouldn't be safe, but basically there's no legal limit to the diameter of the wheels, just the diameter of the tyres and what is deemed safe.
Width of the wheel is a different subject though and in NSW you can only easily go 1" wider than what's on the tyre placard. There are special rules and an engineers certificate that allow up to 2" wider than factory, but that's about it. From memory 8" wide (or the factory width) is the maximum rim width allowed for FWD, AWD and 4x4 vehicles.

That's what I always thought too, but last week I was pulled over and the cop tried to give me a defect notice (unroadworthy vehicle) for my 235/40/18's (I drive a TJ Sports that came with 16s). Personally, I think the cop was full of it and was just trying to do me for something/anything.. But then again.. are they legal?

wow... so much mis-information EVERY TIME this subject comes up. check the ADRs and call your local RTA (or equivalent) for the most current info.
Outside Diameter (OD) must stay within 15mm of the original wheels that came on the car.
Width can be +25mm of the largest optional rim stated on the tyre placard. you can have wider rims signed off by an engineer.
track (measured from the middle of the tyre tread) can be changed by 25mm without requiring an engineer's approval, HOWEVER the ADRs actually state that a FWD with MacPherson strut front end (i.e. Magnas) cannot increase the track by more than 25mm.
that is all!

Pretty sure it covers any OPTIONAL wheel for the car, ie if there was a 17" wheel available as an option/ extra that size is covered too.
