Gooday all, been lurking for a while and now it's time to ask for some advice.

My sons TF Auto had split a top rad tank and we've replaced the radiator. After filling the system is there a need to air bleed it, if so, where is the bleed screw/nut ?
Damned if I can find one.

Also, The elec fans are not switching on, is there an obvious and likely reason for this ?

We don't have a workshop manual as yet, but..........

no need to bleed it... run the car.. then top up radiator as required

as for the fan not running, im sure i've seen some plugs near hte fans make sure they are connected, check your fuses and if all else fails ask MadMagna he knows all lol.

start the car with radiator cap removed and as the engines warms and thermostat opens the level may drop a bit, add coolant mix as required till topped up and the coolant is beginning to swell up in the spout. replace cap. This is the best way i know.

Thanks for the responses chaps.
I've run the car with the cap off and as it warmed up, the level rose, rather than drop.
I guess we could have a crook t/stat huh.
Is that under the housing on the lwr rad hose ?

Where is the temp sender unit mounted, just near the thermo housing ?
There are 2 sender units there, which is what ?

If the coolant rose then there is no air in the system. I cant for the life of me remember which is the temp sender, one is for the thermofans and one for the temp gauge.

no thermostat is at under the top hose....
the temp gauge sensor (on the tj's at least) is the one near the thermostat housing

TR TS V6 SOHC 12v motor, under top hose.
Anyway. Sender with 2 wires is usually for your ECU, sender with 1 wire is for your gauge.
And as said, there are no bleeding screws on the magna's :)

If the coolant rose then there is no air in the system. Not necessarily - any air trapped in the system would expand faster than water as it heated up, causing a relatively greater rise in the coolant level in the radiator. Revving the engine is usually enough to shift any trapped air. Having said that, I've got a Subaru Liberty that's had air gurgling around the cooling system for years - simply can't get rid of it in normal use.

Dont forget to turn on the heater, when bleeding and Filling.

Dont forget to turn on the heater, when bleeding and Filling.

In most cars this is the case but in the 3rd gen Magna I understand there is no heater tap, ie the heater core is full all the time, and heating is controlled by a air flow baffle.

So you wouldn't have to worry about it in the OP's case. :)

Sorry, but third gens are back to front, the thermostat is on the bottom hose, on the inlet

As for rise, this is perfectly normal as the coolant heats up and expands. I have done this countless times, i cover the rad with my hand and push some of the overflow into the overflow bottle so it is there when it all cools down and can draw back

There is no need to bleed the system due to the different thermostat system, just run until at full temp with cap off, let cool, top up and good to go

Fans not coming on is also no issue provided car is not overheating either

No heater tap on third gens so dont worry about that either
