I am looking at an inexpensive rear fill as the stock voice coils on the 6x9's on the back shelf are starting to get scratchy...
So I am looking for $80 and below 6x9's..
Anyone got alternative suggestions ?

So you have a Kenwood Deck, anything else?
If you don't have a sub or amps, generally, keeping the same brand as the fronts, will help, look for something with a lower wattage and a High sensitivity if you can get it.
e.g. 89 Db will give you half the volume as a 92 Db speaker.

Dude you can get the following:
Fusion EN-FR series in 2 or 3 way
JVC CS-V series
Kenwood KFC-M and KFC-S
You can probably get some run out Clarions and Sony ones as well for under $80.

Kenwood will never step foot in my magna...
Already have a Sub so I just need some rear fillers to keep the passengers entertained......

Not sure why you are so anti Kenwood. With product lines like KFC how can you go wrong lol.

lol ! srsly Kenwood makes great stuff, brother has kenwood sub/amp/speakers/deck in his Celica - and its great - i hav had kenwood amps in past n have kenwood front speakers on the magna ther GREAT !
but if you just have that natural hate for them as i do for kicker - even though kicker is a GREAT brand (hell overpriced) or JL AUDIO(which actualy are crap) - then i suggest you chek out
Pioneer TS-A6963E
THESE are prb one of the best value for money, ther $20 over ur budget at $100 but i've heard them and they sound as good as the $200range.
Or if your willing to stretch a lil further and go for MTX THX693 THUNDER series Coaxial 6X9inch Speaker THESE are $110 - 80W RMS ther great speakers. Personally i prefer the MTX - and even though the Pioneers are worth $170 - the MTX great response 38Hz - 22kHz and sound better than the pioneers when amplified ;)

lol I'm assuming you talk to salesmen at places like JB and Strathfield alot.
I think JL had their brand name tarnished by JBL (or vice-versa?) And from my experiences, JB hifi and Strathfield are like chalk and cheese. And then there's real dedicated car audio places.
I checked JBHifi's online store and saw some 6x9 Pioneers for ~$90, go somewhere like JB and show them $70 cash and say you'd really like them, or just ask them their best price.
Last time I bought 6x9s was about 1995, but I got some Alpine 30W RMS ones and they worked fine. Was a huge upgrade from the factory 4" speakers and since they were only ever going to run from the headunit, they were receiving a good 66% of their rated power. I wouldn't think 200W RMS speakers that are only ever going to receive 20-50W are going to perform their best.
Now I'll have speak up for Kenwood slightly - I never had any of their gear last time around, but I heard they were crap and always the cause of noise.
Now I'm told (by a salesman, so don't take this as fact) that Kenwood's & JVC are co-owned or something and "K" manufacture JVC equipment. Also that the quality of Kenwood and JVC is on top while Pioneer is the new 'dog' of quality.
So I've tried a Kenwood deck and so far while just runing stock speakers and internal amplifier, it's OK but not significantly better than factory.
I've just added a sub and now it's better than factory, but if it's "Good" or just OK, time will tell.
my 2c + hopefully helpful tidbit.
Oggy.
I'm a big fan of JVC head units, so figured I'd give Kenwood

Funny how these threads turn into brand bashing.
It has been ages since I have purchased new speakers, I usually shut my eyes and listen for the best set and put all the brand crap aside. Half the time I can't tell the difference between several sets but there will be always 1 or 2 that really stand out.
By doing this I have even ended up with Fusion speakers in the past. Now I bet if I asked around people would say they are crap blah blah but hey, they lasted 2 years before I sold them on and I think they are still going 5 or 6 years later. In recent times I make no secret that I love the way Boston and Hertz speakers sound. Would I stick to these brands only - no. Vibe, Morel etc have all impressed me in the past.
As you mature, your tastes change. This is why Auditioning is key, not what packet it comes in or other peoples "perceptions" how a brand sounds. Brand X is crap, don't touch Brand Y.... I would ignore all that as it is only someone opinion. Why are they crap, why wouldn't you touch Y??
The only exception is reliability, that is a different story.

I decided to save money and retro-fit a set of 5.25 inch Fusion 2-ways that I had in my Vitara.. So now I will just make a template up and sink them in..

Crap.. I now have a BIG hole in the mid -low Bass Range.. leaving a pretty big gap between the 6 inch Splits in the doors and the 12 inch ported in the boot... So looks Like I will have to go budget 6x9s to fill in the hole..
Budget has also been reduced to sub $80.... Fuel prices have affected the budget a tad..
I was in Jaycar yesterday, they've got some "venom" 6x9s for about $40! NFI on quality, but if you just need something to fill a hole...
Of if you can box up those 5.25" Fusions, you may be able to get them to produce some lower frequencies.
My wife's car has a factory sub. It's got a baby 4" driver in a convoluted plastic enclosure, but it sounds closer to a lower powered 8".

As we all know the Stock 6x9's in the 3rd Gen Exec's are well.. lame . But they do produce good mid range at low volume.. Being a duel cone design the treble distorts pretty early in the piece. I am not sure about others, but when I replaced the 6x9's in my last magna.. I lost a Huge amount of low end response..
for some reason, it doesn't matter how hard I try I cannot seem to retain the mid bass punch the stock ones offer.
Hence why my budget for the rears is so low..
