View Full Version : TS - head removal help
Hi all. Long time reader, first time poster.
Need some help with the TS ive got here that has blown the head gasket. Its a 92 EFI 4 cyl model. So far ive stripped down everything and the only thing left is the inlet manifold that is somehow still attached to the head. Ive removed the nuts that attach the lower half of the manifold to the head, but it still wont budge.
Can someone remember everything that needs to come off to get the inlet manifold off?
thanks
I believe that under the manifold there is another bracket. Its around 15cm back from the cylinder head, towards the centre of the whole manifold assembly.

Found it, thanks
Now to pull off the head, and fix....then put it all back :shifty:

On an 18 year old car the head gasket only lets go if the head is warped or corroded, or has softened and the headbolts have lost tension. Check for corrosion - find where the head gasket let go, and check the head for flatness. You may be up for welding and machining. Pull the valves and get the seats cut and valve heads checked for thickness. Have the head checked for hardness by the workshop. Look at the seats where the headbolts washers sit. If they are indented and the washers themselves are cupped, the head has gone soft and needs to be replaced. Assemble with new oil seals on the valve stems. Check the block too for flatness.

Always get the head leak tested and try and work out why the gasket went as well
Chances are it is not he original gasket, may have been a previous install issue as well
Get the head re surfaced, this is by far the best way to get it flat, have the head people you use also test the head for density
Colliers up near TTP are very good, he used to do all my work when I was in SA and is a perfectionist in his work
Best to do once properly
Also with the block, make sure is very clean, use a hard block with some very course wet and dry, lube with wd40 or similar and nice long flat strokes until is nice and clean

If you are up north of Adelaide, there is a good workshop on Salisbury Highway. They do all my work, They usually do a good job.
thanks for the tips, have done a few before. Its getting a new recond head put on anyways, so no problems.
