Hey all, quick question. Is the OBDII plug found in our 380s compatible with the generic code readers?

I know the service manual states MUT III compatibility and the 3rd genners had to use the evo-scan tool which is a lot more expensive and generally had issues with it.

more specifically would something like OBDLink by ScanTool (link (http://store.mp3car.com/OBDLink_Multiprotocol_OBD_II_by_ScanTool_p/com-100.htm)) work in the 380?

thanks,

Mate,

I use the generic OBDII scan tool from JayCar on my 380, works perfectly, so I reckon the OBDLink by ScanTool should work.

Can anyone recommend what they think the best ODB tool/software is for the 380? Do these tools (Like ScanTool) only let you read diagnostice data (and reset trouble codes etc. ) or can you adjust settings also if you get some of the advanced software (i.e. maybe some shift pattern related stuff) ? I presume it would be too much to hope for to be able to do spark advance and injector pulse/air-fuel ratios?

The 380 ECU is locked and it is read only. You can not change anything except resetting CELs. I beleive no one has unlocked the 380 ECU yet...I wish though :(

A couple of threads around about this.

Not even Steve Knight (SKR) can unlock the 380 ECU.

Something to do with Bosch deliberately knobbling it so that any attempt to unlock it or change parameters results in immediate and irreversible limp home mode.

Only known solution ATM is a piggy back ECU, like the ChipTorque Exede I have fitted.

Alright .. so question 2 is pretty much answered : it's pretty much read only.
What about question 1, i.e the best software/scan tool that people could recommend for diagnostics , on road dyno , that sort of thing?
Any opinions?

The Jaycar OBD2 scanner like I have is a very simple tool that reads error codes and can reset them, plus a couple of other very simple functions (like read the VIN).

I know Jasons VRX has a very comprehensive diagnostic tool that plugs into the OBD2 port, he's used it on my car. It can read & diagnose all sorts of things. I guess it's not cheap though. Maybe drop him a PM.

Ecudatascan is pretty damned good....I have one of them as well as the Jaycar.

Real time analysis of fuel trims, absolute manifold pressures, ignition advance, throttle position...oh...and it has GPS and plays divx/mp3 as well.......

just google it...it will blow you away...you'll need 500 bucks.

:think:Whoa , that one might be a bit dear for me , I was thinking along the lines of a Scanguage or something else closer to under $300,
$500 would be a Cat-back for me instead I think:facejump:
