At the risk of sounding silly and asking a stupid question... im gonna do it..
Pulled off the pod filter last night to give it a good clean and oilage and behind the pod filter i found this contraption! it looks like another filter that sits behind the filter? what are these for, ive never noticed them before.. and would they restrict airflow much? (not that i have any problems with the cars performance, just curious!)

Any info would be great!

air flow meter.

Yep thats your Air flow meter (as said) You NEED that for your car to run (notice the 7 pin plug connected to it)
Contiains your barometric air pressure sensor, air intake temp sensor, and air flow mass meter (correct me if im wrong on that last one there)

You can do a few things to not use it, you can use a GM MAF sensor (same shit but round) and then run a MAF converter. so, it'll allow you to run all circly piping but it'll set you back a min of $400 for the privilege.

And no, does not restrict air flow. 3000GT's run these on 10sec cars.

haha i knew thats the air flow meter but i never knew thay had their own little air filter in the front (the bit with mesh on it has a filter behind it) ... but from your responses im assuming all magnas must have these :) Im a Magna virgin so im still learning whats what haha oh and on the front dunno if you can see it but to the right hand side of the mesh it has K&N stamped on the plastic. im assuming this isnt genuine then and probly came with the air filter setup.

EDIT: Looking at the second pic. im not talking about the K&N Sticker haha

The honeycomb mesh is designed to straighten the airflow into the MAF.
Do not remove it or otherwise muck around with it.

Nah! It's your car, poke it and prod it all you like. Violate it even! lol You learn more by destroying things! lol Do you have good walking shoes?

Seriously, don't muck about with it!

the k&n you see is the adaptor for the pod filter to conect to the afm...
