Hey guys, after finding out that my secondary amp has only 3 (out of 4) operational channels the long way, an exposed (power?) wire (which became exposed from fiddling behind headunit) made contact with the headunit and made a spark. From then on in the headunit no longer turns on. I switched the fuse from the unit to the one for the hazard lights and the fuse hasn't blown. Any idea on what could have happened? Have i shorted the headunit in some way? Is it repairable or bye bye headunit?

Have you checked the audio fuse in the engine bay?

That is the main one. Easy way to tell is with a 12V meter or even better a multimeter. This will probably show that there is no power in that wire anymore because the fuse has blown.

You've made my night my man, i didn't think of that fuse. I will check it tomorrow. Here's hoping thats the problem!

Yeah I swapped it with the hazard lights fuse to check if it blew, it hadn't so perhaps it's the audio fuse that blew first.

Just finished the stereo fixup today. It was the fuse, many thanks for the advice! So now i just need to get a better 4channel amp and Im good to go. I'm also getting horrible noise :(

Define the noise ??
a Fart ?
A Whistle that goes with the revs ?
Is it with the Amp on or off ??

Narrow it down champ and then we can isolate the problem and hopefully come up with a solution.

Goes up and down with revs and turns into a high pitched whine when car is on ACC. If i disconnect the two RCAs going into the amp that powers them (so front and rears) the noise goes away. I put a fair amount of RCA slack behind the headunit, could this cause a fair amount of noise?

Its best to store the slack at the back of the vehicle rather then the front.. there are less wires in the boot. It could be also your Earth wire on the amp is not clean enough.

Sounds more like a ground loop then anything else but I could be wrong.

Mate you have blown your RCA track fuse as well. ( inside the headunit ).

Not uncommon for a Pioneer deck - I bought an ex-demo that had this problem.

Is it still under warranty? If not, I seen someone on here get it repaired for around $50 with full service not long ago. Only takes about 2-3 days as well.
