i have purchased my car a little while ago and have no idea what condition things are in so i am doing a service (my self)vi wanted to know however what would be my best bet to check all the components....

i know some mechanics dont like doing this.... would it be good to get something like a pedders safety check and then a mechanicl inspection on the motor??? would this cover everything???? i just find it would be handy to know the condition of as much as possible.... cus if stuff like the shocks and bump stops etc are worn would rather know now then in a few months when they need doing......

also where is the fuel filter and how do i get to it????

Simple - the higher the mileage, the more tired the mechanicals, engine, gearbox, suspension.
Sounds like you want some sort of assurance the car won't break down. No mechanic can do this. You can however check the car's service record against the manufacturer's service schedule and do whatever needs doing, like air filter, plugs, cam belt etc.
In motor sport and drag racing it is common practice to tear down a used motor for a mechanical inspection, but you wouldn't do it on a Magna engine; you wouldn't like the cost of doing so. You are better off becoming familiar with the car and trawl this forum for common problems and how to fix them.
A Pedders safety check is a good idea, however they are going to recommend work needs doing, like shocks and bushes.
Get a workshop manual and read it, it will tell you where the fuel filter is. Do you want to replace it? If so, why? I replaced a fuel filter, the original, on a second gen after 220,000 Km and noticed no difference.
My suggestion is, by all means do the basic servicing, but become familiar with the car before you try anything more adventurous like changing the fuel filter.

dont have a service history or a service schedule....

is there anywhere i can find a copy of the service schedule... i am looking at 145k right now...... would like to know also previous and next.....

am about to change the dash to one with approx 40k less km so record keeping will get confusing from now on....
